fuboTV is a sports-centric streaming service which was first founded in 2015. Its primary target audience were those who love association football – soccer for us Americans, not NFL fans. In the spirit of this, fuboTV includes a huge number of international sports channels that you won’t find anywhere else.

Channels & packages

You can choose from two different packages. The base-tier fubo package will cost you $45 per month, while the fubo Extra package, which boosts you to 100+ channels, will cost $50 per month.

However, if you just want to watch New England Patriots Games without cable, you’ll only need the fubo tier. In Boston and the surrounding areas, fuboTV provides CBS, Fox, and NBC, which you’ll need to watch the New England Patriots.

Beyond this, the fubo package also includes NFL Network. ESPN is not included, though, so you’ll miss out on 1 game this NFL season.

Features and extras

fuboTV has a reasonably good set of features, which makes it an attractive prospect for sports-loving cord-cutters. First, you get a free DVR, which includes 30 hours of storage, and a “72-Hour Lookback” feature lets you watch most shows and sporting events within 72 hours of airing, even if you didn’t record them. You can boost your DVR storage to 500 hours for a $10/month fee.

You can only stream on 2 devices at once, which is not ideal, but you can add a third stream for $6 per month.

fuboTV also has good device support. You will be able to watch the New England Patriots on the go on your iOS or Android phone, or your laptop’s web browser. At home, you can watch on the Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, or on a Roku device, as well as Android TV devices.

Hulu With Live TV

Hulu With Live TV officially launched in 2017 and has quickly become a top choice for cord-cutters, particularly sports fans. Here’s what you need to know about this service.

Channels & packages

Hulu With Live TV has only one package of channels. You’ll pay $40 per month for somewhere between 60-70 channels, depending on your exact location. For your money, you’ll get NBC, Fox, and CBS in Boston, as well as ESPN and a number of other sports channels.

This means you’ll have every channel you’ll need to watch the New England Patriots, with the exception of NFL Network. And because that game is being simulcast on Fox, you won’t miss a single game.

Features and extras

Hulu With Live TV has great features. One of the most unique things about it is that for your $40 subscription you also get access to Hulu’s on-demand library and originals, which is a $7.99 value. You can watch the entire Hulu library, in addition to live TV.

Hulu With Live TV lets you stream on 2 devices at once. If you need to stream on more than this, you can pay for a $15/month “Unlimited Screens” package, which will give you unlimited streams on your home Wi-Fi network, and up to 3 streams outside your home.

A cloud DVR is included with your subscription. You can record up to 50 hours of content. For more storage, you can pay $15/month for an Enhanced DVR, which gives you 200 hours. You can combine Enhanced DVR + Unlimited Screens for a $20 monthly fee.

As far as device support goes, it’s hard to beat Hulu. You can watch on your iOS or Android phone, your laptop, and a number of living room devices, which includes the Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, Roku, and even select Samsung and LG Smart TVs, as well as the Nintendo Switch.

YouTube TV

YouTube TV burst onto the scene in 2017 with a slick marketing campaign and has quickly expanded into most major areas of the US, including Boston and most of New England.

Channels & packages

Like Hulu With Live TV, YouTube TV keeps things simple. You’ll pay $40 per month for a package of 70 channels, which is a great deal. If you live in Boston, you’ll be getting Fox, CBS, and NBC, as well as ESPN, and a ton of other great sports channels like Fox Sports and NBC Sports.

Like Hulu With Live TV, though, you’re going to be missing out on NFL Network if you get YouTube TV. While this is a bit of a bummer if you’re a big NFL Fan, that game is being simulcast on Fox, so you won’t be missing out on too much.

Features and extras

YouTube TV has, bar none, some of the best features of any internet TV service on the market. Firstly, you can stream on 3 devices at once for no additional fee, which beats Hulu With Live TV, fuboTV, Sling TV (Orange), and DirecTV Now.

You also get the best cloud DVR. You can record as many shows and games as you want for up to 9 months, with no other restrictions. You can also create up to 6 user profiles for your YouTube TV account, to make sharing easier.

And while YouTube TV used to lack device support for common home streaming devices, they’ve come a long way in the last year. Besides the must-have support for iOS, Android, and browser streaming through Chrome, you can now stream YouTube TV on Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, the Xbox One, and a number of Smart TVs from VIZIO, Sharp, LG, Samsung, and Hisense.

PlayStation Vue

PlayStation Vue offers an excellent set of features and is a reasonably good way to watch New England Patriots games, but has not gained as much ground as some other top internet TV streaming services.

Channels & packages

PlayStation Vue offers 4 distinct channel packages.

  • Access – 45 channels, $45/month
  • Core – 60 channels, $50/month
  • Elite – 84 channels, $60/month
  • Ultra – All Elite channels plus HBO/Showtime, $80/month

If you want to watch the New England Patriots, your best choice is the $45/month “Access” plan. This will get you CBS and FOX, as well as ESPN. However, NBC is only available on-demand from Vue in Boston – meaning you’ll miss out on 3 nationally televised New England Patriots games.

If you want NFL Network, you’ll have to upgrade to the $50/month “Core” plan. You can also get even more sports channels with the Sports Pack, including NFL RedZone.

Features and extras

PlayStation Vue has some of the best features of any internet TV service, particularly for larger families. This is because you can watch on up to 5 devices at once, without paying an additional fee.

In addition, you get a 28-day unlimited cloud DVR, which will give most folks plenty of time to watch their recorded content.

Device support is good, too – contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a PlayStation to watch PlayStation Vue, although both the PlayStation 3 and 4 are supported. You can watch on Android and iOS, as well as your laptop. Other living room systems supported include Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast and Android TV.

DirecTV Now

DirecTV Now offers a great channel lineup for a reasonable price, perfect for watching New England Patriots Games without cable.

Channels & packages

With DirecTV Now, you can choose between 4 different packages:

  • Live A Little – 65+ channels, $40/month
  • Just Right – 85+ channels, $55/month
  • Go Big – 105+ channels, $65/month
  • Gotta Have It  – 125+ channels, $75/month

To watch New England Patriots games, you’ll be fine with just the cheapest, $40/month package. You’ll get NBC, Fox, and CBS, as well as ESPN and the NFL Network – making this, potentially, the best deal for Patriots fans. You’ll be able to watch every single game.

Features and extras

DirecTV Now used to lack in features, but not anymore. You get a free cloud DVR with your subscription, though it only has 20 hours of storage. You also can only stream on 2 devices at once, but you can expand this to 3 with a $5/monthly fee.

Device support is another bright spot for DirecTV Now. Pretty much every device you’d want to stream on, including iOS and Android, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV.

Sling TV: Our Runner-Up

Sling TV doesn’t quite make it into our recommended list. Why? The service has no partnerships with any CBS or ABC stations, and in Boston, you can’t get Fox, either – only NBC.

In addition, you need to buy the $40 Sling Orange + Blue package to get NBC, NFL Network, and ESPN, since NBC and NFL Network are exclusive to Sling Blue, and ESPN is exclusive to Sling Orange.

For your money, you’ll only be able to watch 5 New England Patriots games. For the same price, you could get fuboTV, YouTube TV, DirecTV Now, or Hulu With Live TV, and watch every Patriots game.

So while Sling may be a better choice for fans of other teams, it’s not quite good enough if you want to watch The New England Patriots.

Stream New England Patriots Games With An OTA Antenna

One way you can watch Patriots games for free is with an OTA antenna. If you live in a market where Patriots games are broadcast on NBC, Fox, and CBS, you can watch them for free, simply by setting up an antenna and connecting it to your television.

You won’t be able to watch games that are exclusive to cable channels like ESPN, but you’ll still get just about every Patriots game, just for the price of an antenna! For more information, check out this article from Flixed:

NFL Sunday Ticket – Out of Market Games (With a Catch)

If you don’t live in a market, such as Boston, where Patriots games are shown, you may be able to purchase NFL Sunday Ticket and watch all out-of-market, Sunday regular season games shown on Fox and CBS.

What’s the catch? First of all, it isn’t cheap at nearly $300 per season. Second, if you live somewhere where you can get DirecTV, you can’t buy NFL Sunday Ticket alone. You have to purchase a DirecTV subscription, as well as Sunday Ticket.

The only exceptions to this are if you live somewhere you can’t get DirecTV satellite service, like if you’re in an apartment, a condo, or a military base, or if you’re an eligible student at a post-secondary, higher education institution. Some folks living in Philadelphia, New York City, and San Francisco may also be eligible. Using this tool from DirecTV, you can see if you qualify.

NFL Game Pass – On-Demand Replays, Live International Streaming

Source: NFL Game Pass

NFL Game Pass won’t let you watch live games if you live in the United States. You’ll be limited to replays only, but you’ll also get some other features, like condensed games and highlights, which are nice to have. The service costs $99.99 per year.

However, if you live outside of America – you’re an exchange student, for example – you can qualify for NFL Game Pass International.

You’re only eligible for this service if you don’t live in the US, Mexico, or any surrounding territories. But if you do qualify, you’ll be able to watch every New England Patriots game, as well as NFL Network and NFL RedZone, which is a nice bonus.
