Syfy announced an expansion of its streaming commitment to sci-fi and anime fandom. This year, Syfy’s Comic Con livestreams will bring the Comic Con experience into homes around the world.
Comic Con coverage will go beyond a traditional main stage broadcast. Syfy Wire, the TV network’s editorial arm, will deliver news related to science fiction, gaming and other things of interest to the fandom community. Recent interviews have included:
- Ruth Carter, the costume designer for Black Panther.
- Altered Carbon actor Dichen Lachman.
- Iron Man comic book artist Alisha Martinez.
Genre News for Fans
Syfy Wire correspondents won’t just interview authors, actors and other creators from the stage. They will also roam the floor, engage with fans and livestream panel discussions.
The coverage at Emerald City Comic Con, for example, will feature Champions of Cosplay. The “biggest cosplay competition in the Pacific Northwest” will stream live to fans worldwide.
“We have fans all around the globe that cannot join us in Seattle, Chicago or New York for these three amazing shows,” explained Lance Fensterman, The head of Con organizer ReedPOP, in a statement.
“We’re thrilled to provide them a front row seat to so much exclusive content from ReedPOP’s con,” added Syfy executive Atthew Chiavelli.
The deal covers the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, New York Comic Con and C2E2 in Chicago. (San Diego Comic Con is an independent event.)
