As the sole providers of new Marvel content, Disney Plus’s Marvel releases have been particularly popular. For most superhero fans, Disney Plus is the best place to stream Marvel shows and movies. For action-packed adventures featuring your favorite superheroes, here are the best Marvel shows and movies to catch on Disney Plus in 2021.

1. Loki
- Release Year: 2021
- Rating: TV-14
- Stars: 4
- # of Seasons: 1
Loki explores the story of Thor’s less famous and less valiant brother. Thor and Loki are both Gods from the kingdom of Asgard, but while Thor holds the impressive God of Thunder title, Loki is the aptly named God of Mischief. He’s an outcast and trouble-maker with a knack for making bad situations worse.
In his namesake show, Loki starts in the same vein as he appears in other Marvel movies: selfish and opportunistic. But through a series of events, Loki becomes a more complex character. As he navigates the Time Variance Authority, operating outside of time and space, we begin to see a new side of him. By the end of the series, you might even find yourself rooting for him. For fans of Marvel who are looking for something a little more off the beaten track, Loki is a welcome change from the usual “good guy” superheroes like Captain America or Thor.
2. WandaVision
- Release Year: 2021
- Rating: TV-14
- Stars: 4
- # of Seasons: 1
The first TV show to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, WandaVision is set weeks after the events in Avengers: Endgame. The show explores a series of classic TV shows, except instead of the usual cast, the main characters are played by Wanda and her partner, Vision. Wanda and Vision try to blend into suburban life while finding themselves in classic television tropes.
As the story progresses, so do the show spin-offs, springing forward a decade with each new episode. There’s an eerie, almost too-good-to-be-true mood throughout the show. As the plot develops in later episodes, you begin to learn why.

3. Black Widow
- Release Year: 2021
- Rating: PG-13
- Stars: 3
The long-awaited story of Natasha Romanoff was brought to screen this year with the self-titled Black Widow. Black Widow is one of the only superheros in the Marvel Universe without any powers. Instead, her strength comes from a childhood of grit, survival, and high-level training from growing up with the Russian military. By the time she’s an adult, she’s a lethal fighting machine.
The story touches on her childhood and follows her life before Avengers: Infinity War. There’s mention of her time with the Avengers, but it’s not central to the story. This movie is more focused on the lives of the Romanoff family, who turn out to be unique, interesting, and funny characters on their own. Black Widow feels part old-crime film, part action movie, with Marvel’s signature comic relief sprinkled throughout. Those who enjoy Captain America: The Winter Soldier will enjoy Black Widow.
4. Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame
- Release Year: 2018 & 2019
- Rating: PG-13
- Stars: 4
The conclusion of the Avengers movies came in two parts: Infinity War and Endgame. The storyline follows one of the signature Marvel villains, Thanos, in his effort to save the universe…by cutting the population in half. To achieve this task, Thanos sets out to find all of the infinity stones to gain infinite control, power, and the ability to bend time and space.
The Avengers band together in a cross-universe effort to stop Thanos. The films offer heartwarming glimpses into the lives of the Avengers, touching moments with families, and heartbreaking sadness when things don’t go as planned. For any Marvel fan, these two movies are the epitome of what made one of the most popular franchises of all time. The story is immediately engaging and exciting, with lots of action, plot twists, and a strong connection between the audience and the characters we’ve come to know through decades of Avengers movies.

The Winter Soldier, also known as Bucky Barnes, was introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now, he returns as a wingman to the instantly likable “new” Captain America, Sam Wilson. Sam was given the illustrious Captain America shield in Endgame, accepting a new role of leadership in his service to the U.S.A. Sam finds himself battling self-doubt and racism while he decides if the shield fits.
In the meantime, Sam and the Winter Soldier develop a fraught friendship-turned-partnership in their fight against multiple threats, including people who were once on their side.
