For cable TV broadcasts, ESPN and CBS will split most golf events, like the PGA Championship or the Masters Tournament. That means to watch the entire tournament, you’ll need a streaming service with both channels–or a service with ESPN+, which covers it all. Read on for our top picks.
1. ESPN+
While ESPN+ no longer offers a free trial, the ability to cancel your subscription at any time combined with its low monthly price means you can try out the service for a small fee. ESPN+ is by far the cheapest and easiest way to watch golf events live. It also offers the most coverage for the tournaments.
ESPN+ does not offer any kind of DVR storage, but it’s not needed. All live content moves to its on-demand library airing, so there’s no need to set your recorder because everything is being recorded for you already.
You can watch ESPN+ on up to 3 devices at the same time. And as everything is recorded for the on-demand library, family and friends can catch up on the action while you’re watching live.

2. Hulu + Live TV
Hulu offers the most options, as ESPN+ is either included with or can be added to any of its plans. And if you don’t mind ads, it’s the second cheapest way to watch the PGA Championship. Hulu + Live TV gives you ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPNU, and ESPN Goal Line – all in the base-tier subscription. Platform support for Hulu + Live TV was limited in the past but has expanded quite a bit. Today, you can stream Hulu With Live TV on web browsers, Android and iOS, Apple TV 4th generation, Chromecast, select Roku models, and the Amazon Fire TV. Xbox One/360 are also supported, as are some Samsung Smart TVs.
As well, thanks to recent changes, all Hulu + Live TV plans now come with unlimited DVR storage with recordings lasting 9 months. You’ll be able to record the PGA Championship through the CBS and ESPN streams, but not ESPN+. However, as noted above, ESPN+ will have everything available in its on-demand library.
Unfortunately, all Hulu plans come with a 2-stream maximum. The Unlimited Screens add-on for $9.99/month lets you watch on unlimited devices connected to your home network, but it’s only available with Hulu + Live TV plans.

DirecTV Stream is the closest you can get to satellite TV. There is a wide range of packages to choose from, all of which include all major broadcast TV networks, ESPN and Golf Channel, as well as 40,000+ on-demand titles.
DirecTV Stream has four different packages, starting with the Entertainment package, which includes 75+ channels. This package includes ESPN, ESPN2, and CBS. All DirecTV Stream plans come with unlimited DVR storage and recordings automatically expire after 9 months. Moreover, platform support is good for DirecTV Stream. You can watch DirecTV Stream on Amazon Fire devices, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV. You can also watch on iOS and Android, or on the web browser of your choice.

4. YouTube TV
YouTube TV is Google’s entry into the internet TV wars, and it’s a good one – with a reasonable price, great features, and a solid channel selection, it’s probably the best value option. With all the traditional TV networks, YouTube TV delivers local coverage of news and sports. You’ll also find FS1, NFL Network, Golf Channel and many more sports channels included with the base plan. Overall, the channel lineup is quite good for sports fans, with no notable coverage gaps.
There’s only one channel package available, which includes ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNews. You also get more sports coverage from Golf Channel, NBC Sports, The MLB Network, The Tennis Channel, NBA TV, NBCSN, Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2, and quite a few other networks. While there are a few add-on bundles, most channels are subscribed to à la carte.
YouTube TV has also recently improved device support. Today, you can stream on your browser, Android/iOS device, or Android TV, as well as Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV. Other supported devices include Roku and Apple TV, as well as a few selected Samsung/LG Smart TVs, and the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gaming consoles.
The outstanding cloud-based DVR is YouTube TVs biggest asset. You can store as many programs as you want for up to 9 months. No restrictions – whether you choose to save 1 hour of content or 10,000 is up to you.
