The World Cup always offers some of the most exciting sports TV around. Those lucky enough to snag tickets will likely be rocking the stands. Thankfully, with the increase in cord-cutting options, anyone can watch the FIFA World Cup without cable – in some cases, for free!

There are a large number of available options to watch the games in every country, and especially in the US. Want to save money while watching the World Cup this year? This guide will help you figure out which services offer the best bang for your buck.

Watch the World Cup Without Cable: Either FOX Sports or Telemundo Deportes is required to watch

Briefly, if you want to watch the World Cup in the US, you will need access to either FOX Sports (for English-language coverage and commentary) or Telemundo Deportes (for Spanish-language coverage and commentary). Those two networks have the sole broadcast rights in the US, so unless you have some kind of access to those services, your legal means of watching the games are going to be extremely limited.

For FOX coverage, you can watch live on FOX, FX1, the FOX Sports app. For Telemundo Deportes, you can watch live through the app available on Android, iOS, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Chromecast. A subscription to a TV service that carries Telemundo Deportes is required.

In the past, gaining access to FOX Sports or Telemundo Deportes would have been impossible without a cable subscription. However, that is no longer the case. Internet TV skinny bundles now exist that let you stream sports channels and world cup matches online without the need to purchase the service through cable.

Here is a full list of every option available to you in the US.

It is, without a doubt, fuboTV’s time to shine with the World Cup on the scene. fuboTV was founded with the aim of getting more coverage of international sports, especially soccer, into the to US sports fans. To that end, fuboTV is going to be an excellent choice for US TV viewers.

Through fuboTV, you can get FOX, FS1, and NBC Sports Network. That’s everything you need to view every World Cup match in 2022. fuboTV offers up all of that for the price of $44.99 per month.

Additional fuboTV benefits

Watching the World Cup through fuboTV might feel like a necessity, given the name and sports-centric focus of the service. However, there are other benefits to fuboTV that might give you a good reason to turn to this service.

First, there’s the fact that fuboTV comes loaded with channels. Over 70+ channels are available through the base package, and a large number of those are international sports networks that are, for the most part, unavailable through the other internet TV skinny bundle options on our list. So if you are a super soccer fan, you can still keep watching other league games from La Liga or the German Bundesliga after the World Cup is over.

fuboTV comes with 2 simultaneous streams as standard, but you can add a third stream for $5.99 per month. And for the price of your subscription, you will get 30 hours of cloud DVR that lets you keep your recordings forever, or until they’re deleted (which starts happening automatically once the limit is reached).

But here’s where fuboTV really blows away the competition. For an added $9.99 per month, the service gives you 500 hours of DVR space. That’s second only to YouTube TV, which offers unlimited storage space but deletes your content after nine months.

For those who want to go with a low-cost option, Sling TV is your best bet. With Sling TV, you can get local FOX affiliates and FS1 through Sling TV’s “Sling Blue” package. This will cost you just $25 per month.

Anyone looking to get access to Telemundo Deportes through Sling TV will also benefit. The Sling Blue subscription comes with NBC Sports as well. Because Telemundo Deportes is now a part of the NBCUniversal family, World Cup matches will also be broadcast through the NBC Sports app, so long as you have a subscription to any service that carries NBC Sports.

Additional Sling TV benefits

There’s more to Sling TV than just the low cost and the access to the FIFA World Cup. Through Sling Blue, you also get access to over 40 channels for the cost of your subscription.

Should you want to record matches, Sling TV has a cloud DVR available to users. Unfortunately, the cloud DVR is not included in the price of your subscription. Instead, you’ll need to pay an additional $5 per month. Sling’s DVR service lets you record up to 50 hours of content. Interestingly, Sling also has a Beta DVR that lets those with Beta access record up to 100 hours.

With Sling Blue, you’ll also get 3 simultaneous streams. That means that 3 individual users can stream FIFA World Cup matches at the same time from different devices. And considering Sling TV works with almost any device you can think of, including a range of smart TVs, it’s going to be a good option for anyone that needs to share an account. If you find you don’t have a good device, however, Sling TV provides a large number of device deals and discounts for new customers.

Hulu with Live TV

Although it’s still labeled as a “Beta” service, Hulu with Live TV is far from an incomplete package. This service is highly attractive and very refined. For World Cup fans, it’s also a safe bet.

Hulu with Live TV offers every channel you need to watch the World Cup: FOX, FS1, and NBC Sports Network. The service offers all of these, plus over 50 other channels, for a rather low cost—just $39.99 per month.

Additional Hulu with Live TV benefits

With the channels you need easily accessible through Hulu with Live TV, you may want to turn your eye to why this service might be beneficial for you. There are several features that Hulu throws in that make it a bit of a unique option.

If you’re familiar with Hulu, you may be more familiar with their on-demand video service that’s similar to Netflix. When you sign up to Hulu with Live TV, you get the on-demand option included with the price of your subscription. You can get Live TV without the on-demand option, but Hulu makes it so that you’d only save yourself $1 per month, so it’s really not worth it.

Hulu with Live TV also comes with the requisite cloud DVR and simultaneous streaming options. You can record up to 50 hours at no additional cost, and you can share your streams with one other person.

Hulu also sells a unique service called “Unlimited Screens” for $14.99 per month. With “Unlimited Screens,” you have literally no limit on how many people can watch at once on your account. The only limit is that they must all be connected to your home network. This is Hulu’s way of preventing you from just giving away your account to anyone and everyone or try to resell your service.

Hulu with Live TV has newly-updated apps on almost every device you might want to use, including some smart TVs.

Additionally, you can give the service a try free for 7-days.

YouTube TV

A new contender in the world of internet TV skinny bundle service options, YouTube TV is a perfect option for anyone who wants to share their subscription with friends and family to watch the World Cup. Through YouTube TV, you can get access to FS1, Fox Sports, and NBC Sports Network. That means you can get both English and Spanish commentary.

YouTube TV doesn’t deliver their services with multiple subscription levels, so you get everything (60+ channels) for just one price—$40 per month.

Additional YouTube TV benefits

The name of the game for YouTube TV is sharing. The service is one of the most generous when it comes to simultaneous screens, individual account profiles, and cloud DVR.

Through YouTube TV, you can share your account with up to 5 other people, for a total of 6 people per account. Each user can have their own unique profile and is even allotted their own DVR. YouTube TV’s DVR is also unique in that it’s not only included in the price of the subscription but also unlimited. YouTube TV places no storage limits on how much you can record. They do, however, start making your videos expire after 9 months.

Still, what that means is you can record every single World Cup match without worrying about running out of space. And, you can record them all in HD.

You can try out YouTube TV with a 7-day free trial.

DirecTV Now

Through DirecTV Now, you can get everything you need for the World Cup matches with the service’s lowest-cost, $35 per month subscription package.

The “Live a Little” package comes with over 60 channels and includes FOX Sports 1 and NBC Sports Network. Standard FOX and Telemundo are also available, but DirecTV Now does not offer these channels with live TV, only video on-demand. Still, between Fox Sports 1 and Telemundo Deportes through the NBC Sports app, you’ll have everything you need to get all of the games.

Additional DirecTV Now benefits

We’ve sometimes avoided recommending DirecTV Now in the past because it failed to provide its users with a cloud DVR option. Thankfully, that is no longer the case! DirecTV Now provides a cloud DVR with 20 hours of storage included with the price of the subscription. This is definitely an upgrade from before, but it’s still not quite up to par with the other services on our list.

Through DirecTV Now, you can also stream on up to two devices at once. Again, this is definitely more restrictive than what you’re going to get with other options, but it’s good for those who want to share their subscription with a friend or family member. And although they don’t advertise it actively on their site yet, DirecTV Now allows you to purchase a third stream for a fee.

Key to DirecTV Now’s success, however, is the fact that it works on so many different devices. You can run the application on almost any device you might have, including Android, iOS, web browsers, and more. DTV Now also has some great deals on free devices when you sign up for extended service.

PlayStation Vue

PlayStation Vue redefines TV
Source: PlayStation Vue

Although it’s not nearly as well known or as popular as the other options, PlayStation Vue has a bit of a cult following for those who have already signed up. For FIFA World Cup watches, PlayStation Vue does indeed have everything you need: FS1, NBC Sports Network, and Telemundo. You can also get access to these channels through PS Vue’s lowest-cost subscription package, Access, for $39.99.

Additional PlayStation Vue benefits

The biggest confusion with PlayStation Vue is who can actually use it. Do you need a PlayStation? Not at all! You can use PlayStation Vue regardless of whether you have a PlayStation or not. PS Vue has an app available for Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Android, iOS, and Google Chromecast.

And when it comes to simultaneous streams, PlayStation Vue is one of the more generous options. You can stream on up to 5 devices at once through their service, making it a good option for those who want to share their account with others.

PS Vue also has a cloud DVR, but it’s just a bit confusing regarding what it does offer there. The service has both a 500-program limit and a 28-day limit listed on its website, although the 500-program limit (which may actually be a 500-episode limit, according to some sources) is the one that is currently promoted more heavily. How that translates into storage space, however, is not clear. PS Vue also has some restrictions in place on which channels can be recorded, and live sports such as the World Cup may fall under the “can not record” list.

PlayStation Vue offers a 5-day free trial.

Additional FIFA World Cup 2022 Streaming Options

There may be a reason for you to avoid using one of the internet TV skinny bundle services. Here are a few additional options to consider.

FOX Soccer Match Pass

Taking into consideration the fact that some people only want soccer, FOX now offers their FOX Soccer Match Pass service. You can purchase a monthly pass for $19.99, or an annual pass for $13.99 per month. As FOX has the rights to the World Cup, this is a good option for those who just want to see the World Cup and nothing else.

Access International World Cup Streams with ExpressVPN

As stated earlier, almost every country in the world is broadcasting the World Cup. In many countries, the world cup is broadcasting on public broadcasting systems, and in many cases, freely to the public. This includes in the UK, Australia, and Switzerland.

The following major international TV channels will have streaming rights in their country:

Most online TV streaming services, including those on international networks, utilize what’s known as geographic content blocking. This means those services block anyone not geographically located in that country. There are multiple ways services can determine your location, but most rely on your IP address, which is like a physical home address for the internet.

For those trying to connect to these free international streams from the US, you will need a virtual private network, or VPN. A VPN service will connect you to a server in the country of your choice. Once connected, your device will gain a new IP address associated with the country, spoofing your location and letting you access those streams.

Not all VPN services will work, however. For that, we recommend ExpressVPN. In testing, we’ve verified that ExpressVPN can unlock all of the major international streaming options that will have the games, including the BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, SBS, and SGR SSR.

ExpressVPN maintains fast servers with unlimited bandwidth and utilizes top-level privacy and security features to keep your anonymous while on the web. For World Cup fans looking to access free streams, or streams from their home country and in their own language while traveling abroad, ExpressVPN is going to be your go-to VPN to ensure you get the kind of access you need without getting blocked.

Express VPN Offer – 3 Months Free

Interested in trying out ExpressVPN? You can now get three months of ExpressVPN for free when you purchase an annual plan. If you try it and you don’t like it, don’t stress. There’s a 30-day money back guarantee, no questions asked.
