Canada’s CBC completely revamped its sports app for the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Renamed “CBC Sports Olympics”, the app will remain in its current Winter Olympics theme for the next few weeks.
CBC Sports App Going for Gold
As identified by /u/databoy2k on the /r/Cordcutters Reddit forum, CBC updated its sports app recently to reflect these changes. A small note in the app’s Android and iOS version changelogs reads:
“This version of the app will replace the previous generic CBC Sports app with a full and exclusively Olympic Games experience. It will contain live streaming of Olympic events and on-demand highlights. Fans will be updated with the latest news, results and medal wins from the Games, and have access to competition schedules and athlete bios. All other regular CBC Sports features will be temporarily removed.”
However, it appears a small number of users took some exception to the changes. Canadians hoping to watch other sports must look elsewhere. The newly revamped version of the CBC Sports app won’t have any non-Olympic sports. The CBC’s website, however, will remain active with other sports content. Those looking for non-Olympic sports content will need to utilize that option.
The sports app is free to download and use for Canadian viewers.
