One of the best ways to stream the Super Bowl is through fuboTV– a streaming service that’s designed to cater to the needs of sports fans with 4k streams and sports channels that most cable TV providers don’t offer.

Channels and pricing

fuboTV has made deals with CBS affiliates in all of the top 20 markets in the US. The streaming service inked those deals in 2017– and they’ve been expanding their CBS coverage ever since. Unless you live in a remote part of the country, you’ll likely be able to get CBS through fuboTV. However, you should go to the fuboTV website first and enter your zip code to find out exactly what channels you’ll get before you join.

When it comes to channels, the main thing missing from fuboTV’s menu is ESPN. fuboTV has yet to acquire the rights to broadcast ESPN from Disney.

Aside from that, fuboTV has a surprisingly deep selection of channels. It has all the major news networks, including MSNBC and Fox News. Other channels include cable TV staples like FX, Chiller, E!, USA, Oxygen, SyFy and more. You’ll get over 90 channels for just $50 per month– that’s an outstanding value compared to what traditional cable TV services offer.

Features

fuboTV has always had better picture quality compared to the other streaming services. One of the first streaming services to offer 1080p streams was fuboTV. Now, fuboTV is beginning to broadcast some channels in 4k– so if you have a good internet connection and a fancy TV, fuboTV makes a lot of sense.

Another benefit of fuboTV is that your fuboTV credentials will unlock the CBS Sports app. All kinds of exclusive content are available through it. You can stream live games, play fantasy football and follow your favorite high school teams with CBS’s high school sports tracker. In addition to all that, CBS has made individual apps for the most popular college sports teams. You can unlock all of those apps with fuboTV, as well.

The main feature downside of fuboTV is that it has a two-streams-at-a-time account sharing limit. However, this inconvenience is offset by the fact that fuboTV has good TV Everywhere support. When you log into a cable channel’s website or app with your fuboTV credentials, you can access live streams, on-demand shows and more. Watching TV through a TV Everywhere app doesn’t count against your two-stream fuboTV limit.

In addition to Apple TV, there are fuboTV apps for iOS, Android, Chromecast, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. You can also watch fuboTV with any type of web browser.

  • Living room devices: Android TV, Apple TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Devices based on Fire TV, Roku and Android TV.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: None.
  • Desktop browsers: fuboTV recommends Chrome.

Another option for watching the Super Bowl on Apple TV is DirecTV Now– AT&T’s streaming service. DirecTV Now has improved significantly since it debuted. New features like a free cloud DVR and improved account sharing has allowed DirecTV Now to catch up with competing streaming services.

Channels and pricing

DirecTV Now has had a good relationship with CBS from the get-go. Shortly after DirecTV Now launched, it inked a deal to carry 155 local CBS stations. Its roster of CBS affiliates has continued to grow. Be sure to check the DirecTV Now website to make sure that your local CBS affiliate is a DirecTV Now partner before you join.

DirecTV Now carries not only CBS but also all the other major broadcast networks: ABC, NBC and Fox. Because you can most likely get all your TV in one place through DirecTV Now, you won’t have to switch back and forth to your TV antenna anymore.

Sports channels that you get with DirecTV Now include all the ESPN channels, FS1, Fox Sports, NBCSN, TyC Sports and many others.

Features

All DirecTV Now subscribers now enjoy a complimentary 20-hour cloud DVR. This lets you record your favorite sports games, TV shows and movies when you’re away from the TV.

Like fuboTV, DirecTV Now is somewhat restrictive when it comes to account sharing. DirecTV Now’s default simultaneous stream limit is two devices, but you can add a third device if you purchase the $5 three-stream add-on.

DirecTV Now has even better support for TV Everywhere than fuboTV. There are around 100 different sites and apps that you can unlock with DirecTV Now credentials. So if your roommate or family member is blocking you from streaming, all you have to do is close DirecTV Now and watch TV through your favorite TV Everywhere app instead.

In addition to Apple TV, DirecTV Now has apps for a large number of TV devices:

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Apple TV, Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Televisions based on Fire TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: None.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome and Safari.

Another benefit of DirecTV Now is that AT&T will often send you a free TV device as a reward for signing up. Check the DirecTV Now website for more information.

PlayStation Vue

PlayStation Vue is somewhat pricey compared to competing streaming services, but its features are quite robust.

Channels and pricing

PlayStation Vue has pretty good CBS affiliate coverage. Last summer, the streaming service inked a deal with 200 different broadcast station affiliates.

Subscription prices start at $45 and go up from there.

  • Access: 45+ channels for $45 per month.
  • Core: 70+ channels for $50 per month.
  • Elite: 94 channels for $60 per month.
  • Ultra: 96 channels, including HBO and Showtime, for $80 per month.

Features

Very few other streaming services let you access streams from five different devices at the same time. This makes PlayStation Vue an excellent choice if you have a large family or intend to share your account with your roommates or friends.

PlayStation Vue’s cloud recording features are also quite good. If you get PlayStation Vue, you can record as much TV as you want without having to worry about limits.

Like most streaming services, PlayStation Vue has good support for TV Everywhere. There are roughly 50 different TV everywhere apps that work with PlayStation Vue.

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Televisions based on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android, Amazon Fire Tablets and iOS.
  • Game consoles: PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

YouTube TV

YouTube TV is another excellent way to tune into CBS and watch the Super Bowl. Like Netflix and Hulu, YouTube TV uses the lure of original on-demand content to entice people to join.

Channels and packages

YouTube TV has excellent broadcast TV coverage. There’s now a 90% chance that you’ll be able to get all four broadcast stations through YouTube TV.

The main downside of YouTube TV is that it doesn’t offer many premium channels. The premium channels that YouTube TV does support, you have to pay extra to get.

On the other hand, YouTube TV does carry a wide variety of standard cable TV staples. The basic plan includes news channels like Fox News, MSNBC and BBC World News. There are plenty of entertainment channels to enjoy. What’s more, it only costs $40 to subscribe.

Features and extras

Like the other streaming services mentioned above, YouTube works with a wide variety of TV Everywhere apps. You’ll probably need to use those if you get YouTube TV, because the service limits you to just three streams at a time.

When it comes to customizability, YouTube TV shines. Once you subscribe, you can create up to six different YouTube TV profiles. Each profile you make gets its own separate recommendations and viewing history.

Another nice thing about YouTube TV is its cloud DVR recorder. There are no recording limits to worry about, and each profile gets its own separate cloud DVR.

  • Living room devices: Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Certain models from HiSense, LG, Samsung and Sharp as well as televisions based on Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: Xbox One.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome.

Hulu with Live TV

Do you enjoy watching The Handmaid’s Tale and other critically acclaimed Hulu originals? If the answer to that question was yes, it may make sense to upgrade to Hulu with Live TV ahead of the Super Bowl. Like the other streaming services listed above, Hulu with Live TV has good support for CBS.

Channels and pricing

CBS agreed to let Hulu broadcast its local stations back in 2017. Since then, Hulu has been busy making deals with the other CBS affiliates. Last September, 171 Next Star-owned CBS affiliates agreed to partner with Hulu.

Like PlayStation Vue, Hulu’s prices are somewhat higher compared to the other streaming services. Prices start at $45 and go up from there. On the other hand, Hulu does offer a competitive mix of channels– and its sports lineup is particularly strong. All Hulu with Live TV subscribers get all the most popular ESPN channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS and ESPNU.

Features

If you want to get Hulu with Live TV’s best features, you have to be willing to shell out some extra dough each month.

The Unlimited Screens account sharing add-on costs $15. Without it, you’re limited to just two streams at a time.

The 50-hour cloud DVR isn’t too shabby, but you have to pay an additional $15 if you want more recording time. You can record up to 200 hours of TV with the Enhanced Cloud upgrade.

As mentioned above, all Hulu with Live TV subscribers can access Hulu’s on-demand catalog. This is a significant benefit, since most other streaming services don’t offer much on-demand content.

Another area where Hulu with Live TV shines is device support. If you own a Nintendo Switch, you can use it to tune into Hulu. In addition, Hulu with Live TV is one of the few streaming services that works with Xbox 360.

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Chromecast, Apple TV.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Samsung and LG smart TVs.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: iOS and Android.
  • Game consoles: Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome, Edge, Safari 10+, or Firefox 15+.

What’s the best way to watch the Super Bowl on Apple TV?

Increased competition for streaming service subscribers has created an excellent situation for cord cutters. If you’re in the market for a streaming service that broadcasts CBS and works with Apple TV, you have a multitude of different options to choose from. Any of the streaming services listed above will let you stream the Super Bowl. The question is– which one is the best streaming service for you?

The answer to that question will depend on how you watch TV. If you have an Apple TV 4k, fuboTV is probably the best choice. fuboTV has started the process of switching to 4k– and several of its channels already broadcast some events in 4k. On the other hand, if you’re a YouTube addict it may make sense to upgrade to YouTube TV. A YouTube TV subscription gives you access to YouTube Red– the home of YouTube originals. Likewise, if you already subscribe to Hulu it may make sense to try out Hulu with Live TV ahead of the big game so that you’ll be able to stream it through your Apple TV device.
