Outlander
- Release Year: 2014
- Rating: TV-MA
- Stars: 8.4/10 (IMDB)
- # of Seasons: 6
Outlander is a great show for those who like to feel as if they’re traveling back in time. In fact, that’s what happens to the main character Claire. She is an English nurse in World War II, and travels back in time to Scotland in 1743. She finds herself in another struggle for freedom, and has an interesting time navigating the cultural norms of the new environment she’s in (excuse me…”old environment”, actually!).
Outlander is based on the book series of the same name by author Diana Gabaldon. The show has some Games Of Thrones-vibes yet remains unique to itself. Outlander plays less on the fantasy side but keeps the air of romance and conflict. Clair is married in her life in England, but of course cannot be with her husband when she goes back in time. She meets James in Scotland, and they are forced to marry. However, this union turns into one of deep passion as Clair and James navigate their new reality together.
Party Down
- Release Year: 2009
- Rating: TV-14
- Stars: 8.2/10 (IMDB)
- # of Seasons: 2
While being a short-lived show due to actor Adam Scott leaving the cast to become a character on Parks and Recreation, Party Down managed to have a great run in its 2 seasons. In this show, a group of wannabe actors move to LA in hopes of scoring big money and roles in the film scene. They encounter some hilarious struggles on their journey to the stardom that they’re dreaming of.
The characters on Party Down all work as caterers while waiting for their showbiz careers to take off. Despite being short-lived with only 2 seasons, the show makes a big impression. Not only is the comedy on-point, the show also speaks on a subtle, yet profound level, of the reality of living a life that is unconventional in terms of societal norms.
The Missing
- Release Year: 2014
- Rating: TV-14
- Stars: 8.2/10 (IMDB)
- # of Seasons: 2
If you are looking for a show to keep you on the edge of your seat and play on your emotions, The Missing is the perfect show for you.
