1. The Good Dinosaur
- Release Year: 2015
- Rating: PG
- Stars: 6.7/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: N/A
This heartwarming coming-of-age tale is a family favorite. Arlo, a young apatosaurus, wants to make his parents proud as his siblings have done, but his timid nature makes it difficult to live up to expectations. Arlo is put in charge of guarding the silo on the family farm and keeping it safe from pests. He sets a trap and catches a young caveboy, but he can’t bring himself to kill him. Arlo sets the boy free, but his father makes him track the boy down. The hunt brings them to the ravine where (spoiler alert!) the father is killed during a flash flood while saving Arlo.
With his father gone, Arlo takes on more responsibilities. He sees the boy again, blames him for his father’s death, and chases him away. Arlo, like his father, gets swept up in a flash flood but survives thanks to the help of the caveboy. Through a series of misadventures, the two learn to trust each other and a beautiful friendship forms as Arlo makes his way home.

2. Ice Age: Collision Course
- Release Year: 2016
- Rating: PG
- Stars: 5.7/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: N/A
The sixth and final movie of the Ice Age saga, Ice Age: Collision Course, is all about comedic romance. Manny is against his daughter Peach’s wedding, Sid is dumped by his fake girlfriend but finds someone new (and real!), and Diego wants to have a baby with his wife. Lots of drama and comedy to be had!
While the main characters aren’t dinosaurs, there are plenty of dinosaur creatures in the movie. The dino birds are a highly intelligent bunch who try to stop the impending asteroids that Scrat (the pesky Saber-toothed squirrel) inadvertently launches towards earth. Though this movie is largely for kids, there are plenty of jokes in it for the adults to enjoy.
3. Dinosaur
- Release Year: 2000
- Rating: (NR if not applicable)
- Stars: 6.5/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: N/A
Dinosaur is Disney’s 39th animated feature film and was the most expensive animated film produced at the time. These dinosaurs are loveable and face a number of seemingly insurmountable challenges, but worry not — there’s a happy ending! Kids and adults alike love this movie.
This Disney Plus dinosaur movie begins with a single Iguanodon egg surviving an attack. Through a series of mishaps, the egg ends up in a lemur colony where a family of lemurs then raises the dinosaur. Sweet, right? It is, until a meteor strikes! Their home is turned into a desert wasteland and the unlikely family must travel through treacherous land to get to the sacred nesting grounds. They face hostile dinosaurs, conflict between themselves, and some internal struggles. But never to fear, the nesting grounds are eventually found!
4. Dinosaurs
- Release Year: 1991
- Rating: TV-PG
- Stars: 7.4/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: 4
Dubbed the weirdest tv show on Disney Plus by Rotten Tomatoes, Dinosaurs is quite the laugh. Get ready for a hilarious bunch of animatronic puppets! Featuring the Sinclar family, this prehistoric era has been turned upside down. The family lives in a seemingly modern world complete with TVs, houses, and taxes, and the cavemen are considered wild animals!
While it is more of a kids show, Dinosaurs can be enjoyed by anyone, as it parodies sitcoms and real life. The show follows the shenanigans of Earl (father), Fran (mother), and their children, Robbie, Charlene, and Baby Sinclair.

5. Walking with Dinosaurs
- Release Year: 2013
- Rating: PG
- Stars: 5.2/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: N/A
Filmed in both Alaska and New Zealand, this dinosaur movie features CGI dinosaurs in live-action settings. Walking with Dinosaurs had an enormous budget and was one of the largest independent productions during its time, and though it didn’t do as well in the box office as the makers had hoped, it is still a widely loved film praised for its special effects.
Told from the perspective of Alex the crow (who later turns into Alexornis when the story reverts back in time) to a paleontologist, this Disney plus dinosaur movie is full of family drama and focuses on the life of Patchi, the runt of a Pachyrhinosaurus herd. While defending the herd, Patchi’s father (spoiler alert!) dies, leaving his rival to take his place. Later, Patchi’s brother Scowler takes over the herd and disowns Patchi, taking Juniper (Patchi’s crush) to be at his side. But not all is lost! Patchi returns to the herd and saves them from Scowler’s poor leadership. Scowler concedes, and Patchi takes control of the herd and reunites with Juniper.
