Canada’s SnackableTV app went live today, anchored by Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud comedy network. The new streaming video service delivers “snack-sized” comedy exclusively to smartphone and tablet apps.
SnackableTV represents the latest development in niche-oriented streaming services. It adopts an approach similar to Crunchyroll’s anime focus and DAZN’s sports focus. SnackableTV can deliver a depth and breadth of comedy content that more mainstream services can’t.
“Today’s launch of SnackableTV represents an opportunity in the short-form content landscape in Canada,” Bell Media President Randy Lennox confirmed in the press release.
Canadian and International Comedy
SnackableTV gives Canadian comedians a chance to reach new audiences. Home-grown SnackableTV content includes an original sci-fi comedy, Space Riders: Division Earth. An exclusive spinoff of the award-winning Letterkenny goes into production this year.
The new streaming service also will be the exclusive home for American comedy series like Comedy Central’s Nothing to Report and HBO’s High Maintenance.
Kevin Hart, the comedian and Jumanji star, said that his Laugh Out Loud network looks forward “to sharing our bold, diverse, unfiltered slate of programming with our fans in Canada.”
The free SnackableTV app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. However, it is an ad-supported service, so expect to see commercials when you watch SnackableTV video streams.
