Apple TV+ on the Amazon Fire TV
There’s good news! You can watch Apple TV+ on your Amazon Fire TV devices, right from the comfort of your own home. Although the vast majority of Apple’s supported devices for its Apple TV+ service are within the Apple family, the company logically branched out to include some non-Apple products.
Depending on the specific Amazon Fire TV device you own, you can also watch Apple TV+ in 4K HDR-quality video, and with Dolby Atmos sound.
Support for the Amazon Fire TV App
As far as we know, Apple will continue to support Amazon Fire TV devices for its Apple+ streaming service.
Apple’s website does not provide any indication regarding Amazon Fire TV device limitations. However, an analysis of user comments from the Amazon App Store appears to indicate that older Amazon Fire TV devices may not work. As well, smart TVs running an older version of Fire TV may also not work with the Apple TV+ app.
Note that in the Amazon App Store, the correct app is called “Apple TV” and not “Apple TV+” or “Apple TV Plus”.
Which Devices Does Apple TV+ Support?
You’ll find the Apple TV+ supports a large number of additional devices, although most are within the Apple family of devices. To date, the Apple TV+ streaming service works on:
- iPhones
- iPads
- iPod Touch
- Apple TV (and Apple TV 4K)
- Mac computers
- Windows computers
- Apple AirPlay
- Newer Samsung, Vizio, Sony, and LG Smart TVs
- Newer Roku Players and TVs
- Amazon Fire TV
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series 2
It’s possible that Apple will add support for more devices (including video game consoles) in the future. Until then, you can pick between on the currently-available devices, or purchase a device that works with Apple TV+. As of this time of writing, Apple is offering a free year of access to Apple TV+ with the purchase of a new iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV, or Mac computer.
