fuboTV is a pretty good streaming service if you like live sports – particularly soccer. However, there are some problems with fuboTV, and it’s certainly not the only sports-oriented streaming service out there. Read on to get an inside look at the best alternatives to fuboTV.
The Biggest Issues With fuboTV
fuboTV is affordable at $39.99 and for the money, you do get quite a few features. You get a DVR, 64+ channels and coverage of soccer matches in the Premier League, as well as a variety of other top leagues around the world. It even includes non-sports channels like E!, Fox, and FXX.

However, fuboTV has some flaws that prevent it from being that “Goldilocks” streaming solution. Here are our primary issues with this service.
Lacks some major sports networks
Despite the fact that fuboTV is oriented towards sports fans, the company has still been unable to strike a deal with Disney – so you won’t get ESPN channels or ABC Sports. If you’re only watching soccer, this isn’t a huge deal. However, if you’re looking to keep up with the “big four” MLB, NHL, NBA, or NFL, this lack of coverage is likely to be an issue.
Available local sports coverage is inconsistent, hard to understand
Understanding what local sports coverage is available is difficult, as we pointed out in our full review of fuboTV. The above screenshot comes from this chart, which shows what game coverage might be available in your area.
As you can see, you’re almost never guaranteed coverage – which is a big issue if you can’t get your local CBS, FOX, or NBC station. Regional restrictions, blackouts, and other “fine print” can further restrict your access to sports coverage
Limited access to local channels
Not all local network affiliates have signed contracts with fuboTV, even though FOX, NBC, and CBS have signed deals. If your particular local affiliate is not part of the service, you can’t watch it on fuboTV.
Of course, you can use an OTA digital antenna to watch local broadcasts. However, this makes things more complicated, and eliminates your ability to watch live content on-the-go.
No apps for major gaming platforms
fuboTV still lacks an app for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While you can use Microsoft Edge on your Xbox or the PlayStation Web Browser to access online fuboTV streams, the experience is quite clunky. If you prefer to use your gaming console as a media hub, fuboTV is not a good choice.
Inconsistent app performance and experience
Live sports are available on every fuboTV app, but if you are also going to be watching entertainment channels or on-demand streaming shows, you’re going to have an inconsistent experience.
It’s difficult to browse on-demand programming and live streams from the iOS app, for example, and you can’t use fuboTV’s DVR functionality on your Roku or Apple TV.
If you’re primarily streaming fuboTV through the web, it’s probably a good choice for you. The inconsistent app experience makes it harder to recommend if you prefer viewing on your TV or mobile devices.
What Are The Alternatives?
Here are a few streaming services that are good alternatives to fuboTV.
While Sling TV has some transparency issues when it comes to pricing packages, it’s still an acceptable alternative to fuboTV. It has plenty of sports channels, a low cost of entry, and optional DVR features.
Flexible subscription options
Sling TV Orange costs $20 a month. You’ll get 28 live channels, which include ESPN, TNT, and TBS, among others. However, you’ll be limited to streaming on only one device.
Sling TV Blue costs $25 a month and is probably the best choice for soccer fans. Among its 43 channels, it includes NBCSN, which has coverage of most major Premier League games. You will also be able to stream on up to 3 devices simultaneously with this package.
You can also combine Sling TV Blue + Orange for $40 a month, which is what most Sling users do. One drawback of Sling TV is that DVR functionality will cost you $5 extra per month.

Includes plenty of sports channels
If you combine Sling TV Blue + Orange, as Sling TV expects you to, you’ll get very good sports coverage. Notably, you’ll get both ESPN and NBCSN, which you can’t get from a fuboTV package.
Further sports channels available in Sling TV include the NFL Network, ESPN2/ESPN3, Fox Sports 2, and local Fox Sports affiliates in select markets. You can add even more sports channels such as ESPN U and NHL Network for an additional fee with the Sports Extra Blue package, or the Sports Extra Orange package. Learn more about Sling Extras here.
Sling TV does not include FOX, ABC, CBS, or NBC broadcast networks. You’ll have to use an OTA antenna to watch these networks if you choose Sling TV.
International Sports Package available
An “International Sports Package” is available for Sling TV subscribers. For $10 a month, you’ll get 10 channels including beIN Sports, BeIN Sports Espanol, and One World Sports. With this package, you can watch soccer leagues like the Copa Americana, and get coverage of major soccer clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and more.
Great device support
Sling TV is available on all modern streaming devices and platforms, including gaming consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The Sling TV app is easy to use and provides a consistent streaming experience across all platforms.
Compared to fuboTV, Sling TV offers better device support. Sling TV is available on all major streaming devices and platforms, including gaming consoles. It’s fairly easy to use and provides a consistent streaming experience.
If you can stand missing out on soccer leagues like Copa América and the EFL Championship in exchange for better coverage of American sports, Hulu With Live TV is a great alternative to fuboTV.
Better local coverage
Hulu With Live TV is $40/month and provides you with access to over 50+ live channels, including local affiliates in your markets. Hulu With Live TV is still in beta, so not every region has access to local broadcast affiliates – but it has better coverage than most. You can check on the Hulu website to see what’s available in your area.
Lots of options for sports fans
Hulu With Live TV is great for sports fans, particularly soccer fans. It includes NBCSN, which covers major Premier League soccer matches in England. It also has CBS Sports Network, The Big 10 Network, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNEWS, as well as Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. Hulu With Live TV lacks the soccer channel beIN TV, though.
Many apps to choose from
Hulu With Live TV is available on iOS/Android devices, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Xbox 360/One. PlayStation support is absent for Hulu With Live TV, though it’s expected to become available in the future.
With YouTube TV, you’ll miss out on some specialty cable channels that are available on fuboTV. However, you’ll benefit from a better DVR service, more consistent device support, and a lower overall cost. If you want ESPN and local live sports coverage for cheap, YouTube TV is a good deal.
The price is right
YouTube TV is $35 a month, and offers advanced features like unlimited DVR recordings and simultaneous streaming on up to 3 devices.
Sports channels galore
According to YouTube, 80% of all live sporting events can be viewed on YouTube TV.
YouTube TV offers ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and ESPN, as well as NBCSN and the Big 10 Network. Fox Soccer Plus can also be purchased for an additional $15 a month. With Soccer Plus, you can watch soccer matches from the UEFA Champions League and Germany’s Bundesliga league.
However, YouTube TV lacks TBS or TNT, which means that some major league playoff games in the NBA and MLB will be unavailable to you. NFL Network, NBA TV, and beIN Sports aren’t on the menu, either.
Apps for almost every platform
The user interface and app experience of YouTube TV is great, compared to Sling TV. YouTube TV is available on Android TV, Android and iOS devices, and all Xbox One devices, as well as on Chromecast. Support for LG, Samsung, and Sony Smart TVs is in the works, as is Apple TV support.
Other Streaming Options For Soccer
If you only care about soccer, check out these soccer-centric streaming services.
NBC Sports Gold gives you access to streaming video from NBCSN, which airs Premier League matches from England. For a $50 yearly subscription, you can watch over 130 matches from top teams like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
You’ll also get access to a large library of NBCSN live and on-demand content, including sports talk shows about the Premier League. These include Premier League News, Premier League Review, Premier League Download.
NBC Sports Gold is available for most major streaming devices, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android, iOS, and Chromecast. However, it is not available for gaming consoles.
For $50/year, this is definitely the best option for you if you’re only interested in Premier League games.
When it comes to soccer, Fox Soccer Match Pass is unbeatable.
There is no other streaming service that provides the same diversity of soccer programming and coverage for such a low price. It’s definitely our top recommendation if you only want to watch soccer.
Fox Soccer Match Pass costs $140 a year. However, the price is not so steep when compared to fuboTV. fuboTV costs $20/month for 2 months, then $40 – bringing its annual cost to $440.
Fox Soccer Match Pass provides live and on-demand streaming soccer matches and content from 30+ international competitions. This includes the UEFA European League, the Champions League, Bundesliga, the FA Cup, the Copa Americana, CONCACAF, FIFA, and the MLS – among others.
Replays of live matches are available alongside live streams, and supplemental content like talk shows and panel programs are also included.
The Fox Soccer Match Pass supports streaming on all web browsers, on Android/iOS phones and tablets, and on your TV with Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. However, gaming console support is notably absent.
