With a crowded streaming market full of ever-expanding options, you may be considering canceling your DirecTV Stream subscription and replacing it with a lower-cost service. We’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know to cancel DirecTV Stream without hassle.
How to cancel your DirecTV stream subscription
You can easily cancel DirecTV Stream from any device, but we recommend doing it from a desktop or laptop computer. Apps sometimes offer a limited view of your subscription settings, so it’s best to get the broadest view possible.
*Note: Some images may refer to “DirecTV Now”, the streaming service’s previous name. It was changed to DirecTV Stream in late 2021.
1. Go to your settings (top right corner gear symbol)
2. Click on “Account Details” above the User ID (email address)
3. Select “Manage subscription”
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select “I want to cancel”
5. Select “Continue to cancel”
6. Optional: Negotiate for a lower subscription price in the chat box on the right
7. Click on “No need to chat, just cancel”
Can I restart my DirecTV Stream subscription later?
DirecTV Stream will let you restart your account at any time. Once you cancel, you can still watch for the remainder of the month that you paid for, or for the remainder of your free trial period. After the service is canceled, you won’t be charged until you reactivate your account.

Are there any good DirecTV Stream alternatives?
DirecTV Stream’s newly slimmed-down channel package and higher price make it a bit of a gamble for those who don’t want or need HBO. Sling TV offers a similar, slim approach at a lower price, but you may also want to consider options such as fuboTV, Philo, Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV.
