Warner Discovery’s new service is finally here. HBO Max and Discovery+ have merged to become Max. With this new merger comes a new service, a new website, and new streaming apps. It also brings new costs. Here's everything you need to know about the full cost of a Max plan and subscription.
Max plans and pricing
Max has three plan options: With-Ads, Ad-Free, and Ultimate Ad-Free. All three plans include the same content and device support, but there are few differences between each.
With-Ads:
- 2 simultaneous streams
- 1080p HD quality
Ad-Free:
- 2 simultaneous streams
- 1080p HD quality
- 30 downloads for offline vieiwng
Ultimate Ad-Free:
- 4 simultaneous streams
- 4K UHD quality with Dolby Atmos on select titles
- 100 downloads for offline viewing
Get Max in multiple ways
You can purchase Max in the US in one of several ways.
- First, there's a solo subscription directly from the Max website.
- The second-best method to get Max is through an DirecTV Stream subscription. It's included as part of the package if you purchase the Premier package.
- The third method to get Max is an as add-on channel with other live TV streaming services. You can add Max to your Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV packages.
Max is also available through Amazon Prime Channels or Apple TV Channels. With these options, you can also simply download the app and log in to your existing Max account if you've created an account directly with Max through the official website.
Can I get Max outside of the US?
Currently, Max is only available in the United States, including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands). The service will be coming to Latin America & the Caribbean by the end of 2023, and Europe and South East Asia by in 2024.

Does Max offer a free trial?
Max itself, like HBO Max before it, doesn’t offer a free trial, but there are other ways to get one. Amazon Prime Video offers a 7-day free trial to Max through their Prime Channels add-on service.
You can also get Max completely free through your AT&T phone plan or your Cricket Wireless phone plan.
How to renew Max plans and subscriptions
Your Max subscription will automatically renew at the end of the subscription period (month-to-month). If you're subscribed to Max through another service, like YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV, you'll need to go into the settings to cancel your subscription. With DirectTV Stream, you cannot cancel the Max subscription as it's included as part of the package and not considered a separate add-on to the service.
