Flixwatch helps people find the highest-rated content on Netflix. The site’s basic interface lets people search by title, cast member and other criteria. Flixwatch also curates lists and statistics of Netflix’s catalog. If you are developing apps, websites or other products, a Flixwatch API would help you add streaming-aware features. But how easy is it to access the Flixwatch catalog? And are there better options?
Let’s find out.
Is there a Flixwatch API?
The Flixwatch approach differs from other streaming search engines. The service does not compile a comprehensive listing of everything in the Netflix catalog. Instead, Flixwatch’s stated purpose is to track “the best content on Netflix”. The search service filters its listing, so it only includes highly-rated content.
Even then, Flixwatch does things differently. It does not use Netflix’s rating system to judge what content to include or exclude. Instead, Flixwatch uses ratings from IMDb and Metacritic to make more objective decisions about its listings.
Flixwatch does not offer an API, so developers do not have an easy way to access the service’s metadata. However, there are companies such as Reelgood which offer a public API for not only Flixwatch, but streamers like Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services.
