How to Cancel Your HBO Max Subscription, Quick and Easy

MaxHow to cancel

HBO Max (called Max from 2023 to 2025) has top-rated content and some of the best features on the market for an on-demand streaming service. However, the price might be too much to handle for some cord-cutters who have already subscribed to half a dozen streaming services. If you’ve decided that it’s time to call it quits, here’s how to quickly and easily cancel an HBO Max subscription.

How to cancel your HBO Max subscription

Canceling your HBO Max subscription should only take a few minutes, although there are some complications to consider, depending on what method you used to create your account. That said, here’s how to cancel a subscription if you’ve signed up through the standard method (through HBO Max directly).

After you log into your account, do the following:

  1. Select the Profile icon
  2. Go to Subscription
  3. Choose Cancel Your Subscription
  4. Confirm your cancellation

And you’re done! As noted, the cancellation process is super easy. This process applies to using the mobile app, just go on our device’s browser to auth.max.com/subscription. Device cancellation options may be limited if you’re trying to access your user settings from other device apps, such as via Amazon Prime Video channels.

Can I cancel HBO Max from AT&T?

If you created an HBO Max account through AT&T, you can’t cancel. AT&T incorporates HBO Max as part of the subscription package. As such, it’s a package deal that can’t be separated into individual parts. If you signed up for AT&T to get HBO Max, you might want to instead cancel your AT&T subscription and get a different (lower cost) service. Or, you could sign up for DirecTV Stream, which only includes HBO Max in its Premier package.

Can I cancel HBO Max through Hulu or YouTube TV?

You can easily cancel HBO Max if you’ve subscribed to it through Hulu,  YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video, or Apple TV.

HBO Max is worth trying, but there are other viable alternatives

HBO Max is a premium VOD platform with attractive titles and top-quality programming. Since it’s a service offered by Warner Bros, you’ll find many exclusives. Examples include Harley Quinn, The Last of Us, and The Flight Attendant. A huge selection of TV shows and movies in different genres is available, which is another reason to try HBO Max.

If you used HBO Max independently from a live TV streaming service and would like to see a cable-free option, don’t hesitate to try Sling TV. Even better, you can check our TV guide to see which channels are available and what they air at any moment!
