The success of The Big Bang Theory spawned a show nobody expected: Young Sheldon. This show explores Sheldon’s childhood as a young savant. You can watch Young Sheldon live without cable with a number of different internet TV services, making it easy to completely ditch cable to get access to all of Young Sheldon’s antics.

You Don’t Need Cable to Watch Young Sheldon

The beauty of our current internet age means more content is available online. Millions of people are cutting the cord each year now, which means they’re dropping cable in favor of internet TV streaming services.

For fans of Young Sheldon and most other entertainment TV, there is now an abundance of cheap cable alternatives to watch TV. Young Sheldon is a CBS exclusive TV show, which means you’ll need a streaming service that provides you with access to CBS live streams.

If you want to watch CBS live without cable to get Young Sheldon broadcasts, your best options include fuboTV, Hulu with Live TV, PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV, DirecTV Now, CBS All Access, or a couple of other potential options.

If you’re opting for a cord-cutting streaming service, note that CBS availability depends on your location. We recommend checking each service’s web page and packages from your location first before deciding, as some options may not have CBS available to you.

Let’s explore your options to get Young Sheldon live.

FuboTV is a sports-centric streaming service, but it also carries a large number of entertainment TV networks. Given CBS carries a lot of sports, it should be no surprise that you can get CBS live streams through fuboTV as well — which means access to Young Sheldon.

Channels and packages

You’ll find two key channel packages without fuboTV: “fubo”, which costs $45 per month and comes with around 70 channels, and “fubo Extra”, which ups that channel package to 90 or more. Exactly how many channels you get depends on your location.

That location-based variability also impacts your CBS access. You may or may not have CBS in your region, depending on where you live. You can easily check, however, by logging onto fuboTV’s website from your web browser, and ensure that you allow it to check your current location. Fubo will show you what channels are available in each channel package based on the location it identifies from your location.

Beyond CBS, you’ll find fuboTV has a large selection of other entertainment and sports channels. That includes options such as CBS Sports, Fox Sports, SYFY, History Channel, HGTV, AMC, Discovery Channel, as well as other local networks like Fox and NBC.

fuboTV offers a 7-day free trial and a $5 discount on the first month of service.

Devices and features

If you opt for fuboTV, you’ll be presented with a few distinct features and additional benefits.

First, fuboTV provides users with a 30-hour cloud DVR as part of the subscription package. This is a lot smaller than some of the other options on our list. However, you can expand that to 500 hours with a $10/month add-on.

You’ll also be able to stream fuboTV through two devices at the same time. That, also, is small compared to some of fuboTV’s competitors, but you can pay $6/month for a “Family Share” add-on that allows you to stream on 3 devices at once.

Thankfully, fuboTV has excellent device support. You can stream directly over most web browsers for Mac and Windows computers, as well as through apps natively built for a multitude of devices, such as iOS, Android, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Chromecast.

Hulu with Live TV

Hulu is without a doubt one of the best streaming services on the market today. Not only does it offer a huge on-demand library of content, but you can now get live TV as part of the deal.

Channels and packages

Hulu is essentially a single-package streaming service. You can get Hulu with Live TV for just $39.99 per month, which includes access to its entire on-demand service as well. For that price, you’ll get 50-70 channels or more, including CBS in most locations.

We say that Hulu with Live TV is “essentially” a single-package streaming service because there is actually another package option available. If, for some reason, you don’t want Hulu’s on-demand option, you can skip down to the bottom of the product page and choose the Live TV Only package. This will cost you $38.99 per month — yes, only a $1 difference. Considering Hulu’s on-demand service typically costs $7.99 per month alone, Live TV Only isn’t that great of a deal. It’s better just to go with the regular package.

Not sure if Hulu with Live TV offers CBS in your area? You can use its local TV lookup tool to determine whether or not CBS is available in your area.

Features and extras

Hulu with Live TV is one of the most feature-rich options on the market today. For the cost of your service, you’ll get 2 simultaneous streams per account, which isn’t great. But you can increase that to watch on as many screens as you want under using the Unlimited Screens add-on for $15/month, which is great if you have a lot of users on the same WiFi.

The service also comes with a quality DVR option, offering 50 hours of storage. You can up the cloud storage to 200 hours with the Enhanced DVR add-on service, also for an additional fee of $15/month. You can combine Enhanced DVR and Unlimited Screens for a $20/month flat fee.

One of the best things about Hulu with Live TV, however, is the device coverage. You can watch Live TV on most devices you can think of, including most TV streaming devices like the Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Chromecast, as well as the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One video game consoles. Hulu with Live TV also has apps for some Samsung and LG smart TVs.

YouTube TV

YouTube TV is a unique option with a lot to offer, especially for those who want to watch Young Sheldon live without cable. The only problem? It might not be available for you yet.

Channels and packages

YouTube TV only offers one TV channel package. For $40 per month, you can get 70+ channels, depending on your location. And depending on where you live, that could include live broadcasts from your local CBS broadcaster.

Alongside CBS, YouTube TV is a great option for anyone who wants a good mixture of sports and entertainment. You’ll get easy access to ESPN channels, as well as options like Fox Sports, NBC Sports, FX, AMC, BBC America, TNT, TBS and more.

Again, this is assuming YouTube TV is available in your area. In my area in Central Virginia, YouTube TV is currently unavailable. But if you’re in any of the major cities in the US, you’ll likely have access to YouTube TV, although you may not have CBS available to you. We recommend checking YouTube TV’s ZIP code lookup tool to see if CBS is available to you.

Features and extras

Assuming the stars align for you, and you can get YouTube TV in your area as well as CBS through it, you’re in a good position to enjoy the service’s features.

YouTube TV comes with the best cloud DVR available in the entire streaming TV market. You’ll get unlimited video recording that won’t expire for 9 months. Additionally, you can have 6 separate, unique profiles per account, and each of those individual profiles will get their own cloud DVR.

The service also allows you to stream on up to 3 devices at a time, which is more generous than most other options without adding an additional stream for a cost. Only PlayStation Vue offers more streams, excluding the paid Hulu Unlimited Screens add-on.

Should you choose YouTube TV, your streaming options are good but somewhat limited. You can use a web browser, of course, but you can also stream via apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, and a selection of smart TVs. But you won’t find an app for the popular Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick due to an ongoing battle between Google (which owns YouTube) and Amazon.

PlayStation Vue

PlayStation Vue is an interesting option to consider. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but it makes up for that with a good number of features and a large variety of channel packages.

Channels and packages

PlayStation Vue is a bit more complicated an offer than most other options on our list. Instead of one or two packages, you’ll be able to choose from 4:

  • Access: 45+ channels for $45 per month
  • Core: 60+ channels for $50 per month
  • Elite: 90+ channels for $60 per month
  • Ultra: All of the Elite channels, plus movie networks (HBO, Showtime)

Thankfully, all you need is the cheapest option in order to get your local CBS broadcast. You’ll need to make sure PlayStation’s website can read your location in order to get it to show your which local TV channels and other options are available to you. From what we can tell, PlayStation Vue is available everyone in the US, but CBS may not be.

Features and extras

PlayStation Vue outshines its competition with many of its features.

First of all, there’s the simultaneous streaming. You can stream on up to 5 different devices at the same time, which is far more than most of the other streaming services, even with paid add-ons for more streams. PlayStation Vue also lets you create up to 10 different user profiles under the same account, and each profile gets its own personalized DVR, similar to what YouTube TV offers.

Unfortunately, those features are a bit muted by the service’s DVR. You’ll only get a 28-day DVR. You’ll get unlimited video recording during that window, but you’re still strictly limited with that time frame. You’ll also find that a large number of local CBS broadcasters block DVR recording on PlayStation Vue (and likely other streaming services). PlayStation publishes the list of broadcasters that disallow video recording here.

If Vue interests you, you can try it free for 5 days. The service has functional apps for a large number of devices, including iOS, Android, Roku, Android TVs, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, PS3 and PS4 (of course), and on the web through Mac and Windows browsers.

DirecTV Now

DirecTV Now is an option to consider for those who want something a bit less expensive than PlayStation Vue, but with more channels than YouTube TV or Hulu with Live TV. It’s not the best option for anyone who is looking for stellar features, however.

Channels and packages

DTV Now has a channel package setup similar to PlayStation Vue. You’ll find 4 key channel packages here:

  • Live A Little: 65+ channels for $40 per month
  • Just Right: 80+ channels for $55 per month
  • Go Big: 105+ channels for $65 per month
  • Gotta Have It: 125+ channels for $75 per month

As with the other options, CBS is part of the lower-cost “Live A Little” channel package, where available. You can use DirecTV Now’s channel lookup tool to determine if CBS or any other local broadcast networks are available in your area.

Alongside CBS, you’ll also get some of the must-haves for cable TV, such as CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery, ESPN, Fox News, HGTV, Fox Sports and more.

Features and extras

DirecTV Now is sadly lacking in everything but device coverage. You can watch this service using dedicated apps for almost any device you can think of except for most gaming consoles. That means you’ll be able to find an app on iOS, Android, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and even some Samsung smart TVs.

As for simultaneous streams and cloud DVR, however, you’re very limited. DirecTV Now only offers 2 simultaneous streams per account. You can add a third for $5 per month. You’re only offered a 20-hour cloud DVR, less than every other service on our list. Compounding the issue is the fact that those videos also expire after just 30 days, making DirecTV Now’s DVR option even more limited.

CBS All Access

Maybe all you want is CBS broadcasts. No worries! CBS All Access is going to be your go-to option. This streaming service offered directly by CBS provides users live streaming access, regardless of region. You’ll also get CBS content on demand, as well as access to CBS All Access originals, like Star Trek Beyond.

The service costs $5.99 per month and may be a good addition to a low-cost, entertainment only service like Philo, which comes in at $16 per month.

Additional Options for Young Sheldon Live

It doesn’t stop there! You can enjoy Young Sheldon without cable and live using the following additional options as well.

Locast is a cord-cutting, live streaming service that offers local broadcasts for major networks like CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC and more. The only difficulty is that it’s only available to a few select markets for now. So if you live in New York, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Boston, or Denver, you can use Locast to get CBS broadcasts live online free.

Over-the-Air antenna

OTA antennas are an excellent way to catch live TV broadcasts from major networks. There’s no subscription fee, and you can pair your digital antenna with something like Tablo to even record videos. How many channels you can get with a digital OTA antenna vary depending on your area, but most US residents can pick up over a dozen channels for free, including CBS.
