What Channels do I Need to Watch the Colorado Rockies Online?

Not sure what the Colorado Rockies broadcast schedule is looking like this year? Wondering what channels you’ll need to watch the Rockies online without cable? Here is a quick list of the broadcasters for this year’s MLB season.

  • ESPN (2 games)
  • FS1 (4 games)
  • Fox (2 games)
  • AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (150 games)

We’ve got some bad news, though. While you can get Fox Sports 1, ESPN, and Fox with all major internet TV provider, you can’t get AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain from any online streaming provider.

fuboTV, Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and even DirecTV Now do not offer this Regional Sports Network (RSN) in any of their streaming packages. In other words, if you live in Colorado and want to watch the Colorado Rockies online without cable, you’re going to miss out on the vast majority of games this season.

And that’s really a shame. While most RSNs from NBC and Fox have signed deals with internet TV services, allowing sports fans to watch their favorite games without cable, it appears that AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain has no intentions to do so anytime soon.

If you want to watch the Colorado Rockies online with AT&T SportsNet, the only way to do so is to sign into the AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain website using a traditional cable subscription.

Your other option to watch the Colorado Rockies games broadcast on AT&T SportsNet is to sign up for MLB.TV, which we’ll discuss later in this article.

For now, though, we’ll take a look at your options for streaming the Colorado Rockies online and watching the games that will air on FS1, Fox, and ESPN.

fuboTV is a sports-focused streaming service that was first launched in 2015, and it has most of the channels you’ll need to watch national broadcasts of the Colorado Rockies online this MLB season. Let’s take a deeper look at this streaming service now.

Channels & packages

fuboTV comes with two primary channel packages, as you can see below:

Those who want to watch the Colorado Rockies on Fox and FS1 will only need to subscribe to the $45/month fubo subscription, which provides you with a total of 80+ channels. You can upgrade to fubo Extra for $50/month, if you’d like, to get a total of 100+ channels, depending on your location.

When it comes to features, fuboTV is pretty average. You can watch the Colorado Rockies on up to 2 devices at once by default, and stream on 3 devices at once if you pay an extra $6/month for the “Family Share” add-on.

You also get a free cloud DVR, which allows you to record up to 30 hours of content, and has no time limits or content expiration dates. If that’s not enough, you can boost your storage capacity to 500 hours for a $10/month fee.

Device support is also pretty good. You can stream on your iOS or Android mobile device, or in your web browser when you’re on-the-go. At home, you can stream on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. If you’d like to try this service, you can give it a shot with a free week-long trial now.

Sling TV

Sling TV was also launched in 2015 and offered an “a la carte” approach to cable, where you can pick and choose the channels you’d like. Today, it’s still a good option for cord-cutters, with plenty of customizability and a reasonable price.

Channels & packages

Sling TV comes in two primary packages, Sling Orange and Sling Blue, as you can see below:

Sling Orange
Free Roku Deal
$25.00/ month

34 channels

Free Roku Express

1 simultaneous stream.

Sling Blue
Free Roku Deal$25.00/ month

49 channels

Free Roku Express

3 simultaneous streams

Sling Orange + Blue
Free Roku Deal
$40.00/ month

56 channels

Free Roku Express

4* simultaneous streams

* You get 1 stream for Sling Orange channels and up to 3 simultaneous streams for Sling Blue channels.

You can subscribe to either package for $25/month, or combine their channels for $40/month with Sling Orange + Blue. Sling Blue comes with FS1 and Fox, but it doesn’t include ESPN, which is exclusive to Sling Orange, so if you’d like to watch national broadcasts of the Colorado Rockies online without cable, Sling Orange + Blue is the better option.

Sling TV has pretty good features, but they vary somewhat based on the package you choose.

For example, Sling Blue channels can be streamed on a generous 3 devices at once. However, Sling Orange channels like ESPN can only be streamed on a single device. This restriction remains in place with Sling Orange + Blue; Sling Orange exclusive channels can only ever be streamed on one device.

Sling TV also does have a 50-hour cloud DVR, but it’ll cost you an additional $5/month fee, and you can’t upgrade to get any more storage.

Device support for Sling TV is good, though. You can stream on iOS, Android, web browsers, Roku, Apple TV, AirTV, Chromecast, and Amazon Fire TV. The Xbox One is also supported, as are some LG/Samsung smart TVs. If you’re interested, you can get a free trial of this service, and try it for a week.

Hulu + Live TV

Hulu + Live TV was first launched in 2017, and its unique combination of value, features, and channels has made it a top choice for cord-cutters. If you’re interested in nationally-broadcast Rockies games, this internet TV service has every channel you need to watch the Colorado Rockies online.

Channels & packages

You have two basic packages to choose from. The $45/month Hulu + Live TV package comes with about 60 channels, and also includes an ad-supported subscription to the Hulu on-demand library, at no extra cost.

If you choose the $51/month Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV package, you’ll eliminate ads from Hulu’s on-demand content. These two packages are identical in every other way, and you’ll still see ads when watching live or recorded content with either service.

You’ll get ESPN, FS1, and Fox with your subscription, so you can watch every nationally-broadcast Rockies game with Hulu + Live TV, and you’ll get plenty of other top-notch sports channels like NBCSN,  ESPN Bases Loaded, CBS Sports, ESPN2, FS2 and more.

Hulu + Live TV has pretty good features, and each one can be upgraded for an additional fee. You can watch on 2 devices at once by default, but with the $10/month Unlimited Screens package, you can watch on unlimited devices inside your home network, and on up to 3 devices at once outside of your home network.

The DVR comes with 50 hours of storage for free but can be upgraded to 200 hours of storage for $10/month with the Enhanced DVR package. You can combine Enhanced DVR + Unlimited Screens for $15/month.

Device support for Hulu + Live TV is also great. You can watch on just about any device, including iOS, Android, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast. In addition, some select LG and Samsung smart TVs are supported, as are the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch gaming consoles.

YouTube TV

Google launched YouTube TV in 2017, and it’s quickly become a top contender in the internet TV industry, thanks to a good selection of channels, incredible features, and broad platform support.

Channels & packages

YouTube TV has a single package of channels, which costs $40/month, and includes 60+ channels, depending on your location. For your money, you’ll get ESPN, Fox, and FS1, so you can watch every nationally-broadcast Rockies game this season. Beyond this, YouTube TV offers plenty of other sports channels, and a good selection of entertainment, news, and lifestyle channels.

YouTube TV’s best feature is its DVR. You can record as much content as you want, and save it for up to 9 months with no other limits. This makes YouTube TV the best option if you tend to record a lot of TV. You also get to make up to 6 user accounts, and each one gets its own DVR, which helps you stay organized if you are part of a larger household.

You can also stream on up to 3 devices at once, which is better than Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV Now, and fuboTV.

Platform support for YouTube TV used to be weak but has improved quite a bit since launch. Today, you can stream YouTube TV on iOS and Android, Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, and Xbox One, as well as a number of smart TVs from Hisense, Sharp, LG, Samsung, and VIZIO.

PlayStation Vue

PlayStation Vue has great, family-friendly features and a good lineup of channels, but is a bit pricey compared to the other options on this list. Let’s take a look at this streaming service from Sony now.

Channels & packages

PlayStation Vue lets you choose from between four channel packages, as follows:

  • Access – 45+ channels, $45/month
  • Core – 60+ channels, $50/month
  • Elite – 90+ channels, $60/month
  • Ultra – All Elite channels plus HBO/Showtime, $80/month

To get ESPN, FS1, and Fox, all you’ll need is the $45/month Access package. That will get you coverage of every nationally-broadcast Rockies game this season.

PlayStation Vue lets you stream on up to 5 devices at once for no extra fee, which means that it’s the best option for larger families or households who may have difficulties streaming on only 2 or 3 devices at once.

Not only that, but you also get a 28-day unlimited DVR. You can save as much content as you want, and it’s only deleted after it has been saved for four weeks. You can create up to 10 user accounts for Vue, too, which makes it easy to manage your DVR and preferences.

Despite what you may think because of the name, you don’t need a PlayStation console to subscribe to PlayStation Vue. In fact, this internet TV service supports all major modern streaming platforms, including iOS, Android, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. Naturally, though, the PlayStation 3 and 4 are also supported.

DirecTV Now

Source: DirecTV Now

DirecTV Now offers a reasonable package of channels plus some premiums like HBO in your subscription, but its high cost and poor overall features means that it may not be right for every cord-cutter.

Channels & packages

DirecTV Now offers two channel packages, after a recent revamp and price increase for their service.

  • DirecTV Now Plus – 40+ channels, $50/month
  • DirecTV Now MAX – 50+ channels, $70/month

If you want to watch nationally-broadcast Colorado Rockies games online without cable, you’ll need the DirecTV Plus package, which will get you ESPN, FS1, and Fox. At $50/month, this is the most expensive subscription on our list.

Given the high cost of DirecTV, you may expect to get some great features for your money. But DirecTV Now only lets you stream on 2 devices at once, and you’ll have to pay an extra $5/month to add a third stream.

While that’s not too bad, the DVR is another story. You can only record 20 hours of content, which is automatically deleted after 30 days. That’s, by far, the lowest-capacity DVR of any internet TV service.

Device support for DirecTV Now is pretty good, on the other hand. You can watch on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast, as well as iOS, Android, and web browsers.

Ironically, it’s much easier and cheaper to watch live games from Colorado Rockies online without cable if you do not live in the Colorado area. That said, anyone can watch the team through MLB.TV, but if you’re in-market, you’ll only be able to get the games on-demand after they’ve aired due to blackout restrictions.

If you do not live in a market where Rockies games are broadcast on AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, you can subscribe to MLB.TV, and watch every Rockies game live this season for just $92/year. Alternatively, you can upgrade to $119/year or $25/month subscription to watch every out-of-market MLB game from every MLB team this season.

And, as stated, if you live in-market for AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, you can still use MLB.TV for the same price. Your streams of the games just won’t be broadcast live.

You will be able to watch every game that’s broadcast on AT&T Sportsnet, though nationally-broadcast games will still be blacked out, so you won’t get the games aired on ESPN, FS1, or Fox.

To learn more, take a look at the MLB.TV website now. If you’re a Colorado Rockies fan, and you don’t live in the broadcast region for Rockies games, this is definitely the best option on this list.
