Watch Tastemade on Philo

Philo Platforms

When Philo launched its service in 2017, it took an innovative approach by not making people pay the high fees for sports, cable news and local channels. Instead, Philo’s customers could watch the most popular lifestyle and entertainment channels at a fraction of the cost of other streaming services.

Philo Pricing and Packages

At only $20 per month, Philo’s sole subscription plan provides a solid mix of nearly 60 channels, including Tastemade.

Philo does not offer expansion options, so you will have to subscribe to HBO or other options separately. You can learn more about Philo’s pricing and packages here.

Philo Channels

Philo’s focus is on the most popular basic cable channels in the lifestyle, entertainment and knowledge categories: channels like HGTV, AMC and Discovery. If you’ve decided cable is too expensive and rely on an over-the-air antenna to get your TV, then Philo is a great way to supplement your TV watching.

However, Philo is not the best choice if you want a complete replacement for cable. Sports channels like ESPN, news networks like CNN and local TV stations charge streaming services high fees. Philo can offer its low subscription rates by skipping those high-priced channels.

You can learn even more about Philo’s channel lineup here.

Philo Supported Devices

Although the Philo app ecosystem not as varied as some of the more-established streaming service, the company has focused on the most popular platforms for watching on a television.

  • Living room devices: Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Televisions based on Fire TV, Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: None.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

You can learn more about Philo’s device support here.

Philo Simultaneous Streams

Philo lets you stream to as many as three devices at a time. Learn more about simultaneous streaming on Philo here.

Philo DVR

Philo’s cloud DVR lets you record as much content as you want, unlike other services which limit you to a few dozen hours. However, the recordings do expire after 30 days.  You’ll find more details about Philo’s cloud DVR here.

Philo On-Demand Library

Philo’s content providers post more than 25,000 on-demand titles into the streaming service’s library. You won’t find any Philo originals, since the company doesn’t produce its own content. Learn more about Philo’s on-demand library here.

Watch Tastemade on PlayStation Vue

Don’t be put off by the PlayStation branding. PlayStation Vue is a great cable-replacement service even if you don’t have a gaming console. An easy-to-understand channel lineup, reasonable pricing and premium features combine to make PlayStation Vue a solid option for watching Tastemade.

PlayStation Vue Pricing and Packages

PlayStation Vue offers four subscription plans with a simple structure: as you pay more, you get more channels. In order to get Tastemade, however, you will need to subscribe at the Core level or higher.

While many streaming services expect you to pay extra for premium features, PlayStation Vue offers premium-level features as part of all four subscription plans. Learn more about PlayStation Vue’s pricing and packages here.

PlayStation Vue Channels

The Core plan provides a solid balance of sports, entertainment, lifestyle, news and information channels. When you upgrade to Elite, you get every channel that PlayStation Vue offers.  At the Ultra level, you also get HBO and Showtime subscriptions built into your monthly bill.

Channels similar to Tastemade that come with PlayStation Vue include Cooking Channel, Discovery Life, Food Network and Travel Channel. Learn more about PlayStation Vue’s channel lineup here.

PlayStation Vue Device Support

You’ll also find a broad ecosystem of devices with PlayStation Vue apps. Microsoft’s Xbox One game console, unsurprisingly, is the only major exception.

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Televisions based on Amazon Fire TC, Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android, Amazon Fire Tablets and iOS.
  • Game consoles: PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

You can get more information about PlayStation Vue’s device support here.

PlayStation Vue Simultaneous Streams

PlayStation Vue is a good choice for large families, since the service lets you stream content to five devices at the same time. You can learn more about PlayStation Vue’s support for simultaneous streaming here.

PlayStation Vue DVR

The cloud DVR lets you record as much content as you want, although the recordings expire after 28 days. Check out this article for more about PlayStation Vue’s cloud DVR.

PlayStation Vue On-Demand Library

PlayStation Vue has a substantial library of on-demand programming from its content providers. You will also find a couple of Sony-owned channels with their own content. PlayStation Emerging Filmmakers, for example, has short and feature-length videos from young directors. Learn more about PlayStation Vue’s on-demand library here.

Watch Tastemade on YouTube TV

YouTube TV sets itself apart from its competitors by providing the best support for the major broadcast networks’ local stations. Beyond that, the streaming service offers a solid channel lineup and unique features.

From a features standpoint, YouTube TV’s user profiles and cloud DVR set the service apart from its competition. You can create up to six profiles on your account, enough for most families. Each profile gets its own viewing history, recommendations and cloud DVR library.

YouTube TV Pricing and Packages

YouTube TV only offers one $50-per-month subscription plan which provides about 70 channels, including Tastemade.

Learn more about YouTube TV’s pricing and packages here.

YouTube TV Channels

YouTube TV lets you watch Tastemade as well as other lifestyle channels like Food Network and Travel Channel. YouTube TV’s real strength, however, is its support for the local ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC stations. In almost every market in the United States, YouTube TV carries all four local stations. None of the other streaming TV services match that level of support.

You won’t find too many options for expanding the channel lineup beyond the base subscription. YouTube TV does offer an a-là-carte menu of premium movie channels, sports channels and others. However, your monthly fee will rise dramatically if you choose too many.

Learn more about YouTube TV’s channel lineup here.

YouTube TV Device Support

In general, YouTube TV supports a wide variety of streaming platforms. However, YouTube has not developed an app that runs on devices or televisions based on Amazon’s Fire TV.

  • Living room devices: Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Certain models from HiSense, LG, Samsung and Sharp as well as televisions based on Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: Xbox One.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome.

Check out this article for more information about YouTube TV’s device support.

YouTube TV Simultaneous Streaming

YouTube TV’s other weakness is its support for simultaneous streaming. You can only use three devices at the same time. While most streaming services have two-device or three-device limits, YouTube TV’s three-device limit is out of synch with its support for six user profiles. For more information about YouTube TV’s simultaneous streaming support, read this article.

YouTube TV DVR

YouTube TV excels in its cloud DVR feature. Even with six people using the service, you won’t have to worry about bumping into limits on the cloud DVR. Not only does YouTube TV let all users record as much content as they want, but those recordings also won’t expire for a full nine months. Learn more about YouTube TV’s premium-level cloud DVR feature here.

YouTube TV On-Demand Library

Each of the channels on YouTube TV provides its own on-demand content. In addition, you get full access to YouTube’s own original content like Cobra Kai, the revival of the 80s classic Karate Kid. Check out this article for more information about YouTube TV’s on-demand selection.
