Peacock
NBCUniveral’s new Peacock service will offer a smattering of live TV content, and among that, access to an NFL Wild Card game. The service’s NFL content may increase in the future as well and may be upped to match what’s available on CBS All Access. The Yahoo! Sports app offers a selection of NFL games live, but only through the Yahoo! Sports app. This option offers live games that are local to you, and primetime NFL games. It also features a “watch together” feature.
What’s the Deal with NFL and Cable Anyway?
Licensing agreements are the main reason why you often need cable to access many games. The short version is this: Most games are broadcast on the major free networks with licensing agreements (NBC, CBS, and FOX). The only cable channels showing NFL games are ESPN and the NFL Network. Amazon Prime Video also has a contract for 11 weeks’ worth of Thursday Night Football matches, while NFL Game Pass lets you stream every NFL game of the season on-demand. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a cable plan, you can’t watch the online live streaming options offered by NBC, CBS or FOX. In this manner, they force you to either purchase a cable package to watch all of the games using a paid streaming service.
