NCIS is one of the longest-running crime investigation TV shows. Even after 16 seasons and several spin-offs, the original is still popping out new thought-provoking episodes. If you’re an NCIS fan, you can watch NCIS without cable, both live when new episodes air, and on-demand for both the current season and past seasons.

CBS owns, produces, and sells broadcast rights for NCIS, so we’ll also explore all of your top 10 options to get access to CBS without a pricey cable subscription.

Where Can I Watch NCIS Without Cable?

Given CBS is a popular national broadcaster, you can get access from a wide range of cord-cutting options. You can get the service from any of the following low-cost (or free!) sources:

  • fuboTV
  • Hulu with Live TV
  • YouTube TV
  • PlayStation Vue
  • DirecTV Now
  • CBS All Access (live and on-demand)
  • Red Stick TV (Red Stick Wireless)
  • Locast (limited markets)
  • Netflix (previous seasons on-demand only)
  • OTA antenna

Your results will vary with any of these services. Unless you utilize traditional cable, CBS won’t be available in every market through every service or option. Thankfully, each cord-cutting option has a local channel lookup tool, while you can also use tools to see which broadcasts you can receive using over-the-air antennas.

FuboTV

fuboTV is one of the most interesting streaming services on the market. Not only does it offer local broadcasts from CBS and others, but it’s also a heavily-sports-centric option that gives access to sports networks you’ll be hard-pressed to find on other streaming services.

Channels and packages

Through fuboTV, you’ll find two channel packages. The lower-cost “fubo” package comes with between 80+ channels, depending on where you live. The “fubo Extra” package, on the other hand, offers 100+ channels.

In order to get access to your local CBS broadcast, all you’ll need is the base “fubo” package. You’ll get CBS, as well as 30+ sports networks, FOX, NBC, FOX Sports, SYFY, Discovery, History, AMC, A&E, TBS, and more. You’ll even get beIN Sports, which is perfect for those who love soccer and other international sports.

Features and extras

It’s easy to be taken aback at fuboTV’s price, at least until you consider what you’re also getting as part of the package.

fuboTV offers subscribers some key features: 2 simultaneous device streams, a 30-hour cloud DVR with no expiration dates for your content, and 72-hour playback for most events and TV shows, as well as a large library of available apps for popular devices (such as the Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, iOS and Android devices, and more).

You can even expand your package with some channel addons, boost your number of streams to 3, or boost your cloud DVR storage up to 500 hours. Each of these options comes with an additional cost, though. You’ll pay $6/month for another stream, or $10/month for more DVR storage.

For those interested, fuboTV offers a 7-day free trial, and usually gives you a discount on your first month of service. You can check to determine if CBS is available in your area by going to fuboTV’s website and ensuring you have location services activated on your device.

Hulu with Live TV

Hulu with Live TV is not only a particularly low-cost option to get CBS and other channels, but it’s also extremely feature-rich with an attractive user interface, great features, and plenty of device support.

Channels and packages

Hulu keeps things simple by offering just one channel package. For $39.99 per month, you’ll get 50+ channels, including CBS, FOX, and most other major cable TV networks.

Hulu with Live TV includes the company’s on-demand streaming library as part of the package with an on-demand subscription, which is an $8/month value. If you don’t actually want the on-demand channels, you’ll find a small link at the bottom of the home page to purchase Live TV Only, which is offered for $38.99 per month. But that dollar difference isn’t going to save you much money, so if you’re signing up, you might as well get the full package, and enjoy on-demand shows, as well as live TV.

Features and extras

Outside of getting Hulu’s award-winning line-up of original content, you’ll also enjoy some pretty impressive technical features with this service.

For the price, you’ll get a rather expansive 50-hour cloud DVR, 2 simultaneous streams per account, and the option to create personalized profiles with curated content. You can also use Hulu with Live TV on a large number of streaming devices, such as the Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, some smart TVs, Xbox One and even the Nintendo Switch, among a few others.

If you need a bit more, you can up your cloud DVR to 200 hours and can tack on an unlimited simultaneous streaming plan that lets any number of users connect to live streams while on the same WiFi network, and up to 3 different people who are not on the same network. Both options come at a fairly significant added fee to your monthly subscription cost, however – they both cost $15/month, but can be combined for a flat $20/month fee.

You can give Hulu with Live TV a go with its 7-day free trial. The site has a tool directly on the homepage to check for local channel offerings.

YouTube TV

YouTube TV is also a simplified streaming service offered by Google. It carries CBS, alongside a large load of other popular TV networks.

Channels and packages

Simplicity is the name of the game with YouTube TV. For $40 per month, you’ll get 60+ channels, depending on your location.

The big difficulty with YouTube TV is that it’s not currently available everywhere. When you use the ZIP code lookup tool available directly on the homepage to check your local channel offerings, you may find an error message that says YouTube TV is not offered to your ZIP code.

You might get service soon, though. YouTube has been steadily adding cities since its launch in 2017. Today, most of the country is covered, but many rural and smaller cities and towns are currently out of luck.

Features and extras

If YouTube TV is available where you are, you’ll be able to enjoy some of the best streaming service features on the market.

YouTube TV offers 3 device streams per account. You can also create 6 separate and unique user profiles. Additionally, not only do you get an unlimited cloud DVR (9-month expiration date), every individual profile gets its own DVR.

There’s also good device coverage with YouTube TV, as you can install apps on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, several smart TV brands, and several other locations. The big limitation is that there’s no native support for Amazon Fire TV devices, as Google and Amazon have been in an ongoing feud that’s negatively affected device support.

You can’t expand on any of YouTube TV’s features with upgrades, but its features are good enough that you don’t really need to. This service comes with a 7-day free trial.

PlayStation Vue

You don’t need a PlayStation to get PlayStation Vue. And if you can get past the price (it’s equivalent to fuboTV for what you need for NCIS), you’ll enjoy some excellent features.

Channels and packages

PlayStation Vue becomes a bit too cable-like with its channel packages, but it’s not something you can’t work past.

You’ll find the following four options available from this service:

  • Access – 45+ channels, $45/month
  • Core – 60+ channels, $50/month
  • Elite – 90+ channels, $60/month
  • Ultra – All Elite channels plus HBO/Showtime, $80/month

The “Access” package is all you need to get NCIS without cable, as that package carries CBS and the other major broadcast networks. You’ll also get popular cable channels, like History, A&E and AMC.

Features and extras

PlayStation Vue’s biggest strength is features and device coverage. You can install the app on all of the popular streaming devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, and mobile devices running iOS or Android, and of course, on your PlayStation 3 or 4 consoles.

You’ll also find that PlayStation Vue is great for families, as you can stream on 5 different devices at the same time at no added cost. That’s more than every other service without paying extra. You can also add up to 10 different user profiles.

PlayStation Vue comes with a somewhat limited 28-day cloud DVR, but you can record an unlimited amount of shows during that time, which is a nice feature.

To determine if PlayStation Vue has the channels you need, you’ll just need to connect to the site with your location services activated. But you can also use the location lookup tool listed on the top right of the page.

Should you wish to give it a shot, you can try it for 5 days free.

DirecTV Now

DirecTV Now channel list
Source: DirecTV Now

Offering a 4-tiered package similar to PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now is slightly cheaper than PS Vue but doesn’t have the lineup of features that it needs to make it that worthwhile for NCIS without cable.

Channels and packages

You’ll find four available channel packages from DirecTV Now that all carry CBS:

  • Live A Little: 65+ channels, $40/month
  • Just Right: 85+ channels, $55/month
  • Go Big: 105+ channels, $65/month
  • Gotta Have It: 125+ channels, $75/month

You can use DirecTV Now’s channel lookup tool to determine if the service carries your local CBS affiliate. If you find CBS is available for you, great! If not, one of the other options on the list will cover you.

Features and extras

DirecTV Now is one of the weakest skinny bundle TV services on our list as far as features go. It’s been slow to add them, and even now it’s pretty sub-par, despite promises by DirecTV Now to improve.

You’ll get 2 simultaneous streams, which is fairly standard, and you can add a third for $5 per month extra. But you’ll only get a 20-hour cloud DVR, which is the lowest of all of these services that offer DVR. And that DVR has a 30-day limit on recordings, so it’s doubly bad.

On the positive end, DirecTV Now supports just about every streaming device, from iOS and web browsers to Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast, so most streaming devices you can think of will likely have a native app.

You can try DirecTV Now with a 7-day free trial.

CBS All Access

NCIS without cable cbs all access
Source: CBS

If all you want is CBS and its lineup of TV shows and movies, it’s your single best option for NCIS without cable.

You can get CBS All Access for just $5.99 per month. For that price, you’ll get live CBS streams, as well as a huge on-demand library of CBS-owned shows going back for decades. According to CBS, the service includes over 10,000 TV episodes. That includes almost every NCIS episode ever produced, as well as a small, but growing library of original content only available through CBS All Access, like Star Trek: Discovery.

The limitation here is obvious, of course. You’ll ONLY get CBS content. You also won’t get any of the additional features available through the other services listed above.

You can install CBS All Access on most streaming devices, a few smart TVs, and on the Xbox One.

Additional Options to Get NCIS Without Cable

The above options are the best places to start for NCIS live and on-demand streams, as they offer multiple benefits and a huge amount of support in the market. They’re not the options, however. These additional avenues are also possible ones to explore.

  • Red Stick TV (Red Stick Wireless): A smaller cord-cutting service offering 50+ channels for $29/month.
  • Locast: A free internet streaming service that offers OTA broadcast network streams over the web. This service is only available in a few select cities and requires location verification to stream.
  • Netflix: Netflix has purchased streaming rights from CBS, so you can find over a dozen past seasons of NCIS on Netflix in the US.

Use an OTA Antenna to Get NCIS Without Cable

Over-the-air digital antenna: If you have an OTA antenna, you can likely pick up NCIS live through CBS broadcasts. And if you pair it with a device like Tablo, you can even record your favorite episodes.

Digital antennas cost money, but you only have a one-time cost in purchasing the equipment (antenna, digital receiver, optional DVR). Some cord-cutting services, such as Sling TV, actually sell OTA devices at a discount and offering them as a pairing for their online streaming options.
