Over-the-air DVR service Tablo just announced an app for Samsung smart TVs. With the addition of Samsung, Tablo is now available on five smart TV brands.
According to Tablo, you will need a Samsung smart TV made after 2015 in order for the new app to work. Your TV will also need to be running the TIZEN operating system. Samsung TV users can find the app from the Samsung Store on their smart TV menu.
To check to see if your Samsung Smart TV has the correct firmware installed, do the following from your TV:
- Go to “Menu”
- Go to the “Support” tab
- Click on the “Contact Samsung” tab
- The included text will provide you with both a model number and software version number

Users will still need to have the Tablo OTA DVR in order to receive channels. Additionally, Tablo states that the new Samsung smart TV app is only available to customers in the U.S.
What is Tablo?
Tablo is one of the leading makers of DVRs for over-the-air (OTA) television. By pairing an OTA antenna with the company’s digital video recorders, cord-cutters can record and view local OTA channels on a large number of devices. Tablo also allows users to cast their live channels to other devices.
Tablo can be used subscription free, with only the cost of the equipment. Users can, however, purchase a subscription to get guide data from Tablo onto their Tablo devices and apps.
