If you’ve been reading a lot of news about all of the new streaming services, such as Disney+, that are in the works, you may be wondering what happened to Quibi. This service was originally intended to launch in late 2019 along with Disney+ and Apple TV. So is Quibi coming out in 2020? When is the Quibi release date? Find out now!
Quibi Will Launch In April 2020
While Quibi was originally intended to launch in late 2019, it seems that this was a bit too ambitious. The service (short for “Quick Bites” if you were wondering) is a mobile-exclusive streaming service that is going to focus on short-form original content that’s 10 minutes or shorter in length.
Perhaps wisely, Quibi is no longer launching in 2019, where it would face stiff competition from Apple TV+ and Disney+. Instead, the new Quibi release date is on April 6, 2020. However, it is possible this date may be pushed back more in the future.
Quibi is certainly ambitious. It will not license any content, and will consist exclusively of original shows from Hollywood heavyweights like Idris Elba, Kevin Hart, Steven Spielbierg, Antoine Fuqua, and Sam Raimi, as well as sports and news content. Reportedly, Quibi will have more than 7,000 pieces of original content within its first year.
How Much Will Quibi Cost At Launch?
Quibi has two primary pricing tiers. You can pay $4.99/month for an ad-supported subscription, or $7.99/month if you’d prefer an ad-free experience. Regardless of which subscription tier you choose, you’ll get access to the same library of content.
What Devices Will Quibi Support At Launch?
Quibi is intended to only be viewed on mobile devices, such as iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.
Unlike other streaming services, you will not be able to watch it on your web browser, Smart TVs, devices like Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV and Chromecast, or gaming consoles like Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Support for these devices is not going to be added in the future. Quibi is intended to be mobile-only, which is certainly a unique decision in today’s competitive streaming landscape.
Can I Get A Free Trial Of Quibi?
Yes. Quibi will have a free trial when it launches in April 2020. We expect either a 7-day or 30-day free trial, but Quibi has not yet released specifics about the length of its free trial.
