How Much Does Netflix Cost?

In the United States, Netflix Basic– Netflix’s cheapest subscription– will cost you $9/month. A mid-range plan called Netflix Standard costs $13. The most expensive plan is Netflix Premium, which costs $16/month. The DVD rental service still exists, too. Its subscription prices start at $8/month and top out at $15/month.

Residents of other countries can’t get sign up for Netflix’s DVD rental service. However, Netflix’s streaming service is available just about everywhere.

Netflix subscription prices vary depending on your signup location. European Netflix subscribers pay €7.99 for Netflix Standard, but the only get 47% of the content that US subscribers enjoy. In India, Netflix subscribers only pay ₹199/month for Netflix Standard, or roughly $2.88.

When Was the Last Time Netflix Raised Its Prices?

The latest Netflix price hike happened in May of this year. The increase made headlines because it marked the first time that the streaming giant raised the price of its cheapest streaming subscription. Other notable price increases occurred in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Will Netflix Increase Its Fees Again in 2020?

Netflix’s 2019 price increase has helped the streaming giant boost its revenues, but the hike has also caused Netflix to lose customers. Netflix admitted this in a recent shareholder letter:

“Since our U.S. price increase earlier this year, retention has not yet fully returned on a sustained basis to pre-price-change levels, which has led to slower U.S. membership growth.”

With increased competition from new streaming services, Netflix will probably give its customers a break this year. The company’s leaders hope that the cash influx will help it create new, fresh franchises that are just as compelling as the classic franchises that Disney, Hulu, HBO and others offer their customers.

Does Netflix Have Any Paid Add-Ons?

No. All Netflix subscribers get complete access to the full Netflix catalog. The various subscriptions only determine which features you get.

Does Netflix Have Extra Hidden Fees?

There are no hidden fees.

Does Netflix Offer a Free Trial for New Users?

Yes. You can get a full 30-day trial of the service upon signup. Netflix’s trial period is long compared to competing services. Most limit their free trials to seven days. Netflix will even send you a reminder three days before your trial expires so that you can cancel if you’re not completely satisfied.
