If you’re running into blocked content, slowed internet speeds or links that don’t work when you use Kodi, the problem could be your Internet Service Provider.  Major ISPs like AT&T and T-Mobile have been caught discriminating against video streamers.

To avoid connection problems, slowdowns and other issues, consider installing Virtual Private Network software.  A VPN blocks your Internet Service Provider from monitoring and controlling the way you use the web.

Read on to find out how to install a VPN on Kodi for Mac OS.

Before we Proceed

We highly recommend using a VPN when using Kodi. Kodi users have been known to receive copyright infringement notices for streaming movies, sports, and TV shows through various addons. If you would like to keep your streaming habits private, our recommendation is IPVanish - a complete privacy solution for Kodi users. It's also worth noting that purchasing a 12 month subscription will give you two months free.

How to install IPVanish on a Mac

All you have to do to install IPVanish on Mac OS is sign up, download the application, install it and then login.  Here is a step-by-step breakdown with screenshots.

Step #1: Sign up for a plan

If you click here, you’ll be taken to a special page for AddonHQ readers that looks like this:

The normal monthly price for IPVanish is $6.49, but the AddonHQ discount lets you sign up for $4.87.  In other words, our readers get to pay $55.44 for a full year of IPVanish service instead of $77.99.

Step #2: Download the application

IPVanish’s Mac application is located at https://www.ipvanish.com/vpn-setup/mac/.  Just click the orange button to download IPVanish.dmg to your desktop.

Step #3: Install IPVanish

To install IPVanish on a Mac, drag the program into your applications folder.

Step #4: Log in

When you signed up for IPVanish in step #1, you should have gotten a username and password delivered to you via email.  Use those credentials to login to the IPVanish software.

Step #5: Connect

One of the things we really liked about IPVanish was that its software is super easy to use.  On Mac OS, literally all you have to do is open up the program and push the big green “connect” button on the bottom of the screen to log in to one of IPVanish’s servers.

As soon as you log on, the upload/download graph begins to run.  The green line shows you how much data you’ve downloaded and the red line shows you how much you’ve uploaded.

The list of countries on the bottom right hand corner of the screen allows you to log in to IPVanish from pretty much anywhere in the world.  The ability to login from anywhere allows you to get around any type of geographic content barriers.

For example, some Kodi addons only work inside the UK.  But if live outside the UK and you log on from on of IPVanish’s UK servers, it’ll seem to everyone on the web that you’re on a British internet network.
