With so much action on the Kodi scene these past few weeks, you might find yourself in a situation where your favorite addon no longer exists. If you’re looking for a complete streaming addon with a diverse array of content, the Rising Tides Kodi addon might be just what you need.

The Rising Tides addon for Kodi is one of the many all-in-one addons that are currently available. It will give you access to all sorts of content all neatly organized in an easy to use, and intuitive way. It is particularly good for streaming live content and you’ll find streams from many countries and in many categories and genres. It was recently featured on our Best Live TV Addons for Kodi 2017 list. Check out that list for even more great addons.

In this article, we’ll first go through the installation of the Rising Tides add-on step by step, including any dependencies and repositories that are required. Even if you start with a brand new Kodi installation, we’ll make sure you get everything you need to fully benefit from the Rising Tides add-on. We’ll then present you with a guided tour of the add-on to help you find your way around it. As you’ll see, there is a ton of content available but it is nicely organized which allows you to easily find what you’re looking for. Finally, we’ll briefly discuss the pros and cons of this add-on.

Remember that none of these addons are part of the official Kodi repository and consequently, they are not supported by Kodi. Instead, they are supported by their own development team. Also, since they are often actively developed, their features might change over time and some content that is available at the time of this writing might no longer be by the time you read this. Conversely, new features that are not mentioned here could be available.

Before we Proceed

We highly recommend using a VPN when using Kodi. Kodi users have been known to receive copyright infringement notices for streaming movies, sports, and TV shows through various addons. If you would like to keep your streaming habits private, our recommendation is IPVanish - a complete privacy solution for Kodi users. It's also worth noting that purchasing a 12 month subscription will give you two months free.

Step-by-step installation of the Rising Tides addon

Installing the Rising Tides addon is a multi-step process. It is dependent on the f4mTester and SportsDevil addons so these must also be installed. And in order to install them, you need to install the Smash repository. So, in sequence, you’ll need to enable unknown sources, install the Smash repository from a zip file, install f4mTester and SportsDevil from the Smash repository and finally install the Rising Tides add-on from a zip file. If you follow the steps below, it’s actually quite simple.

Enabling Unknown Sources

Before installing most addons, you must first enable Unknown Sources in Kodi. If you haven’t done that already, it’s very simple. Just follow these steps:

From the Kodi home screen, click the Settings icon (the little gear at the top left)

Settings Button

Click System Settings

System Settings

Select Add-ons on the left pane and then click the switch at the right of Unknown sources to turn the option on

Unknown Sources

Click Yes to acknowledge the warning

Warning!

Now you’re ready to start the actual installation.

The Rising Tides addon is dependent on two other addons that must first be installed: f4mTester and SportsDevil. If you already have these addons, you may skip these steps. If you don’t, just follow through.

The good news is that those two prerequisites can be found in the Smash repository. That will save us a few steps down the line. So, let’s start by installing the Smash repository.

A quick tour of the Rising Tides addon

You can launch the Rising Tides addon from Videos > Video Add-ons. Simply double-click it to start it.

Add-ons

When you first start Rising Tides, you’ll be presented with its main menu.

Rising Tides main menu

The interesting items are:

  • Football Highlights
  • Swift Channels
  • Country Channels
  • Sports channel
  • Live Football
  • Live All Sports
  • IPTV Heaven
  • Movies
  • Documentaries

Before we begin exploring Rising Tides, you need to remember that not all content is necessarily available to everyone and some might be blocked based on your location. If you use a VPN, and we strongly suggest you do, perhaps you should change your VPN server connection to the country from where the programming you want to watch originates.

Let’s see what each main section contains.

Football Highlights

This section offers Football (that is soccer, not American or Canadian football) matches. It also has some other football-related programming. The list will vary depending on what is currently available. At the time of this writing, there were 65 different matches or programs available to watch.

Swift Channels

This section is a whole addon within the addon. It seems like they’ve put in this section all the channels from the Swift Stream Android app. The Swift Stream app is an Android app that allows you to access live TV content right from your Android device (phone, tablet or TV box).

Swift Channels

The categories in this section are the same as the app’s. Content is mostly arranged by location (India, Pakistan, USA, UK, France Germany, Portugal, and much more—there’s about 20 of them). There are also themed sections for Kids, Wildlife, sports and Islamic TV as well as a few movies sections. The best way to discover all that’s available under this section is to spend some time browsing it.

Country Channels

We’re not talking music here. Under this section, you’ll find all sorts of live IPTV channels sorted by country of origin. If you want to see what’s on Canadian TV, click on Canada TV and you’ll be presented with a list of available Canadian channels. If you feel exotic, go to one of the two lists of French channels.

Country Channels

There are subsections for the UK (2), US, Canada, France (2), Spain, Germany, India, Pakistan, Italy (2), Netherlands and an Arabic subsection. As we suggested before, some adjustments to your VPN connection might be necessary to access geographically restricted content.

Sports Channels

Do we really need to explain this one? You’ll find almost 200 different sports channels from all over the world sorted alphabetically. You’ll find all the mainstream sports networks such as ESPN, Eurosport, Skysports, Sportsnet, Sports TV, Starsports, and TSN, just to name a few. And some of these networks offer multiple channels.

There are just too many channels under this section to list them all. Go see for yourself. If you’re a sports fan, you’ll find something for you in there.

Live Football

If you’re a football fan (again, we’re talking about the round ball, not the American or Canadian stuff), you’ll find live football matches in here. The links are only activated 10 minutes before the start of each event so it will often be empty but if there’s a match available on IPTV, chances are it will be on that list. And if you’re a football fan, you’ll know when to look.

Live Football

Live All Sports

Same basic principle as the previous section. But here you’ll find many different sports. You’ll even find sub-sections for rare sports such as Cricket, Rugby, or Darts. And while not all sports are featured, the selection is nonetheless impressive. There is NFL, Football, Cricket, Tennis, Boxing, Golf, Motorsports, Rugby, Hockey, NBA, Darts, WWE, Hose Racing, UFC and Baseball.

Live All Sports

IPTV Heaven

It appears that this section is no longer working although it was just days ago. It was a section with links to content from 11 different lists that are freely available on the Internet. Each of these lists contained numerous channels as depicted below.

  • List 0     3941 channels
  • List 1     1375 channels
  • List 2     536 channels
  • List 3     5147 channels
  • List 4     65 channels
  • List 5     4219 channels
  • List 6     5147 channels
  • List 7     125 channels
  • List 8     1968 channels
  • List 9     189 channels
  • List 10   5147 channels

Now, this section is empty.

IPTV Heaven

We don’t know for now if this content will be available again. Many of the channels that were found in this section can be found in other sections, though.

Movies

I won’t surprise by telling you that you’ll find movies in this section. They’re arranged under three headings: Latest Releases, Box Sets, and Archive List. Only the first section seems to be populated with content, though. As of this writing, a little over 60 movies are available under the Latest Releases subsection.

Movies

Documentaries

Again, a section whose name is self-explanatory. All the selections in this section are arranged by topic which makes it easier to find what you’re looking for. There are 25 sub-categories among which you’ll find biography, arts, health, history, mystery, politics, religion and science. It appears that this section is currently broken, though, as I was unable to open any of the categories on two different installations.

Documentaries

Pros and cons

The main advantage of the Rising Tides add-on, it the quantity and variety of content it offers. No matter what your taste is, what language you speak of where you’re from, you will certainly find something in there for you. This single add-on is so complete that it will give you access to most, if not all, of the live content that’s available.

The Rising Tides addon is far from perfect, though. And just like anything else, it has its flaws. The main drawback I found was the inability to search content. If you recall seeing something you liked but can’t remember where it was, it might take you a while to locate it. There’s a way to circumvent this, though. Whenever you find a channel you like, just right-click it and add it to your favorites. You’ll then be able to quickly return to that content just by clicking the link in your favorites.
