HBO plans to equip their upcoming streaming service with not only a slew of Max Originals but also thousands of popular Warner Brothers titles and (eventually) live TV. The fact that HBO Now comes preinstalled on new Apple TVs suggests that HBO will likely release an HBO Max app for the platform. However, that might not happen if Apple decides that HBO Max is a competitor to Apple TV+.

Will there be an HBO Max app for Apple TV?
The answer to this question is anyone’s guess. HBO has yet to release an official list of platforms that HBO Max will support. According to the official HBO Max website:
“HBO Max will be available on many popular devices: phones, tablets, Mac and PC browsers, streaming media players and game consoles. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to our launch date.”
Apple TV is one of the most popular streaming media players. It would make sense for HBO to release an Apple TV app. On the other hand, Apple may decide against allowing HBO to do this.
HBO Max might take away business from Apple TV+
HBO Now’s current catalog is built around HBO shows and movies. That makes it more of a niche streaming service. HBO Max, on the other hand, will be a full-featured streaming service. If Apple decides that HBO Max is an Apple TV+ competitor, it might refuse to allow HBO to release an Apple TV app for it.
