Disney+ on the Apple TV
Your Disney+ experience on the Apple TV will depend on which version of the device you own. The fourth-generation Apple TV only supports 1080p HD output without HDR video quality. The fifth-generation Apple TV 4K, as its name suggests, supports both 4K resolution and HDR quality. Naturally, your TV has to support 4K and HDR as well.
Support for the Apple TV App
Apple made the confusing decision to call its streaming box “Apple TV” and to call the video app on all of its devices “Apple TV”. By integrating with the Apple TV app, Disney lets you see Disney+ new releases, recommendations and other tailored content in the Apple TV app along with content from other streaming apps.
There is a catch. To get the most from this feature, you have to subscribe to Disney+ through an in-app purchase on an Apple device. Since you’ve made the deal with Apple, Disney doesn’t know who you are and can’t give you access to Disney+ on non-Apple devices.
By subscribing to Disney+ directly, you’re free to use any device with a Disney+ app. You will, however, lose the customizations in the Apple TV app.

Which Devices Does Disney+ Support?
Disney+ supports many popular streaming devices. Other streaming boxes that Disney developed apps for include sticks and players from Roku and Amazon as well as Google’s Chromecast devices. Televisions that use the Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast or Android TV smart TV systems can also use Disney+ as can smart TVs from LG and Samsung.
Whether your smartphones and tablets are running Android or iOS, you’ll be able to download the Disney+ app. The same thing’s true for game consoles like the Xbox One, PS4 and NVIDIA Shield.
In all of these cases, the hardware will determine whether you can get 4K content from Disney+.
