Kodi’s indie add-ons community is always in flux. An add-on that’s hot one week could easily fall out of fashion the next. Likewise, a poor quality add-on can receive a major renovation and suddenly become a hit.

To help you stay in tune with the changes, we’re tracking the very best Kodi add-ons that the community has to offer. Every month, we verify each add-on on our list to make sure that they’re all still up and running. And if we notice any major changes, we tweak our list accordingly.

This month, we started following a brand new C0LDFIRE add-on called No-Name. We also checked in on Streamhub, Covenant, Gurzil, Enigma, Duckpool and Wolfpack. Read on to find out what they do and how to install them.

Before we Proceed

We highly recommend using a VPN when using Kodi. Kodi users have been known to receive copyright infringement notices for streaming movies, sports, and TV shows through various addons. If you would like to keep your streaming habits private, our recommendation is IPVanish - a complete privacy solution for Kodi users. It's also worth noting that purchasing a 12 month subscription will give you two months free.

Streamhub

  • Latest version: 3.16
  • Still the best live TV add-on
  • Stable cable TV feeds via Mobdro

Streamhub might very well be the Kodi community’s best kept secret. Other video add-ons for Kodi receive more hype, but few have better live TV links.

Streamhub’s unusual online home makes it somewhat of a mystery. As far as we know, Streamhub is the only indie video add-on that’s hosted on the Internet Archive. Another interesting fact about Streamhub: Streamhub’s developer sClarke apparently works for NASA.

The best thing about Streamhub is its Mobdro section. Unlike most live TV links, Mobdro links are extremely stable. In addition to Mobdro, Streamhub also gathers links from freetVIP, IPTV4sat, IPTVfilmover, IPTVsatlinks, Panda TV, SourceTV, MamaHD, Shadownet, Ustreamix and more.

In addition to live TV, Streamhub also has a huge sports replay section, plus separate folders dedicated to documentary film and anime content. Streamhub can also import music videos from YouTube and VEVO.

News and updates

Apart from a few minor menu tweaks, Streamhub hasn’t received any major updates. All its Mobdro channels are still up and running.

Covenant

  • Latest version: 1.1.13
  • TV show and movie streams
  • The all-around best replacement add-on for Exodus

Out of all the video add-ons out there right now, Covenant has the biggest chance of leaving a lasting impact. Many of the indie add-on community’s best minds joined forces to help this add-on become what it is today. Each new iteration brought with it improved video stream search technology.

Covenant’s name and logo are new, but the underlying code has been around for years. Before the recent re-brand, Covenant was known as Exodus. And before that, it was called Genesis.

Covenant uses publicly available movie and TV databases to generate lists of titles. Once you click a title, Covenant reaches out to hundreds of different video sources around the web. After Covenant finishes searching, it delivers a list of video streams that match up to the video you want to watch.

Covenant’s underlying code is complex, but its simple text based interface couldn’t be easier to understand. That’s why we feel that Covenant is one of the best add-ons to start out with if you’re totally new to Kodi.

News and updates

A look at Covenant’s home on GitHub reveals that it has received several “commits” (code tweaks) over the past few weeks. Work performed included scraper maintenance, language updates and various bug fixes.

No-Name

  • Current version: 1.1.4
  • Live TV links & TV shows / movies
  • Curated lists + IMDb integration

The newest addition to our add-on watch list is a brand new offering from C0LDFIRE. C0LDFIRE was one of Exodus’s major contributors.

The No-Name add-on offers both hand-picked content lists and IMDb generated lists. Most add-ons offer one or the other, but rarely both. Another thing to like about No-Name is that it has tons of live TV feeds. The links are organized in a somewhat crazy way, but the sheer amount of links available makes it worth exploring. Additionally, No-Name features a dedicated folder for 3D content and a section for kids’ films.

Gurzil

  • Latest version: 4.0.3
  • New Exodus fork
  • Except for the art, Gurzil is exactly the same as Covenant

We discovered Gurzil Exodus fork by accident while looking around in the Smash repository last month.

Apparently, hardly anyone knew about Gurzil at the time.

Nobody was mentioning Gurzil in August. Source: Twitter

But in recent weeks, Gurzil has started to gain popularity.

News and updates

A new message posted on the add-on indicates that Smash recently borrowed some code from Covenant.

Apart from the different artwork, Gurzil still looks exactly the same as Covenant. Only time will tell if Smash will add new features to it and make it his own.

Enigma Entertainment

  • Current version: 2.0.3
  • New add-on with movies, TV shows and live TV
  • Active Facebook group

Enigma Entertainment is a brand new add-on that we found out about last month. Even though Project Revolution is a new programming group, it already has a very strong following on Facebook.

News and updates

Enigma’s menu is a lot bigger than it was when we first found this add-on weeks ago.

On the other hand, Project Revolution seems to be going through some growing pains. All of the live TV links that made this add-on look promising no longer work.

The good news, though, is that some kind of brand new project is apparently in the works.

Project Revolution’s willingness to engage with their fans is unique because most developers are somewhat standoffish. But if Enigma’s developers fail to deliver on their promises, Enigma could easily wind up in the dustbin with all the other Kodi add-ons that faded away after their developers wandered off to other projects.

Installation instructions

Step #1:  Install the My Kodi Revolution repository.

Download repository.kodirevolution-[version].zip from http://mykodirevolution.com/repo/.  Then, open up your Kodi and click add-ons on the left side of the screen.  Next, click the box icon.

Duckpool

  • Current version: 1.0.0.73
  • Re-branded version of iStream
  • Movie and TV show streams

Duckpool has a goofy name and quirky artwork, but don’t let that fool you– it’s actually quite good.

Duckpool’s underlying code was derived from a classic Kodi add-on called iStream. Unlike most Exodus forks, Duckpool has a built-in system for saving favorites. Another thing to like about this add-on is that it has a search history feature.

News and updates

We were a little bit wary when we first found out that Mucky Duck took over iStream. Mucky has a tendency to abandon his add-ons once he gets tired of maintaining them. Because Mucky didn’t push out any Duckpool updates in August, we think that Duckpool could be on its way to becoming yet another abandoned Kodi add-on.

Installation instructions

Step #1:  Install the Mucky Duck repository

First, download repository.mdrepo-x-x-x.zip.  Then, open up your Kodi and click Add-ons on the left side of the screen.  Next, click the box icon.

Wolfpack

  • Current version: 2.3
  • Detailed & organized movie and TV playlists
  • Live nature cams

Most indie video add-ons rely on movie and TV show databases to generate lists. However, some indie developers create their own content lists themselves. Wolfpack may not be as organized as Covenant or Gurzil, but if you like obscure and lesser-known films and shows you may want to check it out.

News and updates

Wolfpack’s main administrator is @morepowerllc on Twitter. In recent weeks he’s continued to add content to Wolfpack. If you have a Dolby Surround Sound 5.1 compatible stereo system, you may want to check out his new “DOLBY MOVIES HD 5.1” list.
