Apple TV+ on the Apple TV
When Apple announced its Apple TV+ service, it initially only included Apple products as compatible with the service. That included (unsurprisingly) the Apple TV streaming device. As a TV-connected device similar to the Roku and Amazon Fire TV, the Apple TV+ is one of Apple’s focal points for streaming Apple TV+.
You’ll find your Apple TV device will stream all of Apple’s exclusive Apple TV+ content in high quality. If you have an Apple TV 4K, you’ll be able to stream in 4K HDR. Apple also delivers Dolby Atmos digital sound through its Apple TV devices.
Support for the Apple TV App
As the Apple TV is an Apple product, you can expect full, unending support for this device. Although Apple does not go into exact detail regarding which generations of Apple TV work with Apple TV+, you’ll likely be able to stream content on any of the newer generations.
Importantly, note that Apple also has a service called “Apple TV”, which is technically different from Apple TV+. However, Apple runs Apple TV+ from the Apple TV app, so you’ll only need to download and install the app labeled “Apple TV”.
Apple TV streaming devices aren’t the only available option for subscribers. If you plan to use Apple TV+, you can install it on any one of the following devices:
- iPod Touch
- Apple TV (and Apple TV 4K)
- Mac computers
- Windows computers
- Apple AirPlay
- Newer Samsung Smart TVs
- Newer Roku Players and TVs
- Amazon Fire TV
Considering you can stream Apple TV+ on up to 6 different devices, you may want to install the service on multiple devices at once for family and friends to enjoy.
At present, Apple TV’s lineup of supported devices is somewhat small. While major options are currently missing device support (such as Chromecast and gaming consoles), Apple may add support for these in the future.
And if you’re in the market for a new Apple TV device, you may be in luck. As of this time of writing, Apple is running a deal offering one year of Apple TV+ with the purchase of an iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV, iPhone, or Mac computer.
